2002... Η εποχή του Khronos πέρασε και για τα καλά. Η παλιά εποχή ξεθώριασε και ο Σάκης έπρεπε να προχωρήσει. Μα η πορεία προς τα εμπρός δεν έρχεται χωρίς να κάνεις κάποια θυσία. Και ο Σάκης το ήξερε αυτό. Πήρε μια βαθιά ανάσα και ένιωσε τις δίνες του χρόνου να τον ρουφάνε. Για να επιστρέψει αλλαγμένος μα και δυνατός, ακατανόητος από τους πολλούς και να ενώσει συγχρονία και διαχρονία, καταργώντας τις λεπτές διαχωριστικές γραμμές μεταξύ παρόντος και παρελθόντος. Το αδύνατον. Και όμως τόσο δυνατό. Αόρατο. Και όμως τόσο φανερό. Συνήλθε. Ξύπνησε. Κοιμόταν ή ήταν ξύπνιος; Ούτε αυτός ήξερε. Και έφυγε προβληματικός για να μην βρει ποτέ λύση. Πέρασε αργότερα και έβλεπε τα μνημεία στην Ελευσίνα, όταν από το μυαλό του ήρθαν σαν πέπλο και τον σκέπασαν σκηνές από το παρελθόν. Τα Ελευσίνια μυστήρια... Τελετές... Μυστικισμός. Όλα τον ρούφηξαν σαν κινούμενη άμμος προς μια άβυσσο, στον Κάτω Κόσμο. Εισήλθε και έχασε το νου του στις σκιές που ξεπρόβαλαν γύρω του . Χάθηκε για μερικά λεπτά στον κόσμο του. Ύστερα, παρακολουθώντας απαρατήρητος μια αρχαία τραγωδία, η ένταση κορυφώθηκε και τον κατέλαβε σαν ιερή μανία του Διονύσου. Στο μυαλό μια επίσκεψη στην Ολυμπία του ξύπνησε ένα όνειρο όσο η νοσταλγία τον μούδιαζε. Όλα αυτά τριγύριζαν στο μυαλό του και διαλύονταν σαν νυχτερινά χρώματα και εντάσεις στο φως της μέρας. Στον ύπνο του έπαιρναν σάρκα και οστά και έβγαιναν από τη ζωή σαν όνειρα μιας δεύτερης πραγματικότητας. Και έτσι, περνώντας τον καιρό έβγαλε από τα έγκατα της νοητής αβύσσου του το Genesis, τη μοναξιά των σοφών. Genesis. Η άρνηση του ανθρώπου να από τα δεσμά της επιθυμίας. Να δρέψει τον καρπό της και να τον απολαύσει σε συνάρτηση με τον εαυτό του. Το Genesis Φέρνει παρόν και παρελθόν μαζί και τα ενώνει μέσα στα έντονα μυστικιστικά κύματα και τις χορωδίες με τα τα αρχαία στοιχεία. Η μυστικιστική ατμόσφαιρα των Ελευσίνιων Μυστηρίων. Τα έντονα συναισθήματα και η κάθαρση της αρχαίας τραγωδίας. Η θολή και ακαθόριστη εικόνα ενός αρχαίου παρελθόντος. Σαν παλιούς μουσουργούς που θέλησαν να συζεύξουν ουρανό και θάλασσα κάτω από το τρεμόπαιγμα των ακτίνων του ήλιου. Και το κατόρθωναν κάποιες φορές, όπως το πέτυχε και το Genesis. Για εμένα, το Genesis αποτελεί το βασιλιά των πιο υποτιμημένων άλμπουμ των Rotting Christ. Όπου και να ξεκινήσω, λίγα θα πω... Καταρχάς, ξεκινώντας από την παραγωγή και την ατμόσφαιρα, η παραγωγή είναι εξαιρετική και κατά κάποιον τρόπο μοναδική στο είδος της, αφού δίνει την εντύπωση πως το άλμπουμ ηχογραφήθηκε στον Κάτω Κόσμο, στα δώματα του Πλούτωνα. Όσο για την ατμόσφαιρα, είναι δυνατή και επιβλητική, με ένα αρχαίο θα έλεγα συναίσθημα και ισχυρά μυστικιστική, κάτι στο οποίο βοηθούν πολύ τα synths και τα voice samples. Σε ότι αφορά τα πλήκτρα πάλι, η δουλειά γίνεται εξαιρετικά και το μόνο που έχω να πω είναι πως θα ήθελα λίγο παραπάνω ποικιλία στους ήχους, αν αυτό ήταν δυνατό. Σε ό, τι αφορά τα ντράμς, ο Θέμης σκίζει και μόνο στο Nightmare έχω πρόβλημα στο κατά πόσο ακούγονται τα blast beats σε ορισμένα σημεία. Στο θέμα κιθάρα και μπάσο έχω ικανοποιηθεί απολύτως, μην πω πως έχω ξετρελαθεί! Και τώρα στα τραγούδια, όλα σχεδόν σκάνε σαν πυροτεχνήματα όταν τα ακούω και μόνο λίγα θέλουν δουλειά. Γίγαντες - Δυναμίτες όπως το Lex Talionis, το Nightmare, το Dying, το Under the Name of The Legion και το Astral Embodiment (το bonus ttack) είναι γαμάτα και αποτελούν αιώνια κομμάτια του συγκροτήματος, που δεν παλιώνουν όσος χρόνος κι αν περάσει!! Το Daemons και το Quintessence είναι πολύ καλά κομμάτια, τραγούδια όπως το Release Me και το Ad Noctis ήθελαν παραπάνω μελωδία και σωστή αξιοποίηση κάποιων τμημάτων τους: Πιο συγκεκριμένα, το Release Me ήθελε παραπάνω μελωδία και το Ad Noctis χρειαζόταν τροποποιήση στο main riff (το οποίο θέλει πιο πολλή μελωδικότητα και "φωνάζει" για αυτό), καλύτερη εξισορρόπηση του αισθήματος μεγαλειότητας και φόβου και μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια και καλύτερη αξιοποίηση του μελοδικού riff πριν το τέλος (μπορούσαν να τελείώσουν το τραγούδι με αυτό το riff άνετα), ενώ τέλος, τραγούδια που ακούνε στα ονόματα 'In Domine Sathana' και 'Call of the Aethyrs' χρειάζονταν (και χρειάζονται) ξαναγράψιμο και μια μικρή τροποποίηση στους στίχους... Overall, το Genesis είναι ένα αδικημένο και υποτιμημένο άλμπουμ των Rotting Christ το οποίο δεν προωθήθηκε σωστά, όπως και ο πρόγονός του το Non Serviam, αλλά παρόλα αυτά παραμένει ένα από τα πιο δυνατά άλμπουμ του συγκροτήματος και ένα εκ των λίγων δίσκων που νίκησαν το χρόνο και έγιναν αθάνατα!!... Συνολική βαθμολογία: 100/100

I remember doscovering this band and album in a magazine, Metal Hammer I believe. No article. Just an ad for this album, (which was their latest release at the time). I went to the record shop immediately after school and, to my surprise, found this album just staring at me off the wall. One purchase and a taxi ride later, I was home discovering the genius that is Rotting Christ. These guys are the masters of their craft.

Amazing album, the one I deeply loved since day one. I have an incredible memory also of the ending of a RC gig in Rossiglione, Italy, July 2009, with “under the name of legion”, with the sunset behind the stage, among the mountains. It still chills my spine remembering that. I saw many times Sakis, Themis and the guys over the years, between 2000 and 2015-16, in Italia, many times, Lyon, Dublin, and they always were FANTASTIC, on stage and off stage too.
