IKR? I read somewhere, that they where the first black metal band, that back in the 90's dared to use synth keys. Something that was imitated by other big bands of the genre, later. In order to be a pioneer in your craft, you have to dare to be different!

@@alphajames33 They weren't the first, but they were definitely among the first. Celtic Frost and Bathory (from the first wave of black metal) were already adding atmospheric keys and samples to their music. As for second wave bands, which I consider Rotting Christ a part of, Samael also had keys on their first album (mainly just interludes and instrumentals) Worship Him, was was back in '91. A lot of the Scandinavian bands wouldn't touch keys however and Rotting Christ definitely preceded most if not all the Norwegian bands in using keys.
