Brilliant video. It shows how hard Barry worked to keep ahead of the game. Even when he gets home, his mind is onto what’s happening tomorrow. It’s got to be so stressful. Fair play to his wife & family too, it’s great when the money is coming in, but how do they switch off.

1998, I can remember most of these races he's talking about. Great betting year for me. I had a Yankee come in that included Danielle's Lad at 33/1 and Ocker at 25/1, also had a nice touch on Kendall Cavalier in the Welsh Grand National at big prices, amongst various other decent wins. Halcyon days... And don't think I've backed a winner since.

@philvalentine7665 Жыл бұрын
@@jakubwidlarz It was a 50p EW lucky 15. Only had three win those two and another at 10/1, the other one was second. Still paid out £3980 in total. Fair bit of money in 98 for a 19 year old. If the other one had won, it would have been up towards £30K. It was a Friday afternoon towards the end of the year; I watched the results come in on C4 Teletext 😂

@@TopBoon yes david is right, I was a Clark for about ten years at dog tracks and the horses, when you place your bet with any bookie the bookie with call your bet out ,for example you have ten pounds at 2/1 barry will call to me 20 pounds to ten ticket number 48 n I will write it down instantly ,the Clark is the man who stands behind the pitch with a big white book n pencil in there hand , lastly the on course betting is dead as I and many more people have lost our jobs , when before it wasn't just our jobs it's was our life ! ! !

@@DdotRay86 I was a Clark doing this job and believe me it was fucking hard work, and if you make a mistake, God help you, ur get a mouth full and told next time you've lost ur job , I no what ur saying for instance someone wants £18.50 at 11/4 at just before the race when it's proper busy and I can't work it out instancely I will write in the book 18,50 at 11/4 then when the race is being run I'll work it out As there running but someone like barry won't like it cause your job is to be a human computer ,the worst bet I found was people who have something like 8,50 EW on the favourite at 13/8 , but I honestly loved the job and miss it terribly , used to get 25 years ago 80 quid a meeting with a bonus if we won ,remember it's around 3 hours work and you really only work horses ten minutes before the race till the off ,and the greyhounds ur doing 5 mins before the race till the off
