Hey Dave, thanks for the great walk thru. I wish I could jettison myself there to buy some of that material you are looking at. If you look up Rob at Michigan Rocks on KZbin, he is what I would call the king of tumbling. He has even won awards for his work. He will answer your questions about tumbling, and share his knowledge with you. He has several videos showing how to tumble from start to finish. Great guy. Like you 👍❤️

That is a great idea that he deserves more vendors absolutely have to do that it’s OK to have both finished and rough but if they’re not married other people wouldn’t know if I sold rough I would literally have cabs with a piece of rough a slab in a finished piece all next to each other so people can see the difference and I would hang the displays on the tent walls

Kambaba Stone is ancient fossilized Sea algae, hence the swirls of green and it being nicknamed as an Ocean Jasper. But, it's not exactly an impostor. Pinolith is gorgeous as a cab cut gem in jewelry settings.

You call the void in rock a "vug". Vugs often have druzy crystals lining them. Many agates form in vugs in basalt. I just cut open a toffee brown glass-like agate that I was going to make cabs out of -- but found it had a 1" diameter vug running through most of it -- and it is lined with light pink druzy crystals. I may make pendants out of the slices -- they look like onion rings with pink sugar granules in the center hole.

An interesting point was brought up when you visited the Swazi agate @ 10:57. Do you know anything about how ethically sourced the minierals etc. that you buy are? Everthing sold at the shows can't possibly be traced back to the source. Africa has a painful history of slavery, mining and colonialisation. I wonder if any of the people buying crystals for health, healing, calming, power and so on know they are actually holding a gem mined by a child. I don't mean to point the finger at you Lapidary Dude, it's just an important part of consumption. The overlap between the natural healing crowd and slave mining might be closer than we realise!

Unfortunately I know very little about the root source of the materials I buy some of the materials that I see for sale I know I don’t really come from any other stores besides one or two places which are well known to be pretty sad and miserable when it comes to the operation I will be honest with you my friend when it comes to buying and selling gemstones outside of first world countries you can bet your bottom dollar if it’s affordable that it has a sad story to it or at least what we would call sad story I have a bunch of examples I can let stuff on some of my friends making $10 a day working 12 hour days however they can make that $10 you’re a lot further than I ever could so what is sad is it sad them not knowing what it’s like to make $200 in American or is it sent to us because they make $10 a day my friend in Delhi makes about $10 a day he can take his girlfriend out for lunch and dinner see two movies and buy her a gift often hey scarf and still have money left over from is $10 a day job lol I cannot text my girlfriend out for lunch and dinner to movies and buy her a gift for my daily wage lol

Thanks, Dave ... Rough stones: At times, I can feel their vibrations ... and some times, once they're polished, the vibration seems to lessen. I love the big slabs with just a couple of sides polished,. Some day, I'll venture to AZ ... Taos is another journey. Again, thanks.
