Tommy you left out a lot of information!. If I want my headboard to be 66" wide, how wide do I cut the plywood to allow for the return?
@coreykettel49344 жыл бұрын
Very easy! 66+7+1+1.5..... 66=your desired width 7= width of 2 2x4 1= thickness of two pieces of the half inch ply 1.5= thickness of the rough saw 3/4 material. For a grand total of 75.5”
@amsivertson2 жыл бұрын
He didn’t leave anything out at all. He told you it can be as wide as you want it to be. It could be the width of the mattress or frame. Or wider. Or all the way behind the nightstands…which is what he said. And you can make the return as deep as you want. He said he used 2x4 for the structure, so it would be at least that deep, and you could make it deeper if you want. He didn’t give measurements, because they’ll be different for your application. Make it the way you want to make it!

@bmay88182 жыл бұрын
@@amsivertson It's an issue in all woodworking. Wood "breathes" whether it's inside or outside, regardless of species or age. The degree to which it affects anything depends on lots of factors, and many things built this way are fine, but it's always a risk.
@amsivertson2 жыл бұрын
@@bmay8818 lol yes I’m very, very familiar. And I live in an area with very severe winters and hot humid summers. And what you’re describing is not an issue **for this specific application**, even in a climate with such drastic swings in conditions.

I hate this weathered wood trend. I'm a kitchen installer and lately this stuff has become very popular. We install a beautiful new kitchen and then the client wants to cover the back and ends of the island with weathered wood because they saw it in a magazine or on some TV show and they believe all the oohs and aahs from the actors. Only problem is it looks like crap. It's splinters waiting to happen and will be a huge dust catcher and very hard to keep clean.
@bighands696 жыл бұрын
That rustic sawn look is really nice and it is authentic looking. It goes with older houses or modern houses. My Whole kitchen and that includes floors, ceiling, units, tables and windows are done in that woodwork style and everybody loves the look. It will still be there in 30 years time.

Nothing like TV carpenters to make shitty workmanship, poor fit and no knowledge of how to properly finish a workpiece a popular “upgrade” so long as you call it something catchy like “rustic” or “cowgirl chic”. Just as bad as all the “distressed” finishes.... you just painted something and then randomly took a freaking sander to it; my 4 year left to her own devices is like a freaking furniture finishing guru by those standards!
@cgaccount36696 жыл бұрын
Trend is another word for style. Not everyone likes every style. To me over finishing wood isn't that attractive. I prefer rustic over perfectly fit, which is often just veneer over particle board. The factory made look isn't always appealing
@Natedoc8086 жыл бұрын
CG Account veneer over particle board is a euphemism for garbage. Wood doesn’t need to be over finished, but it should at least not snag your wife’s hair in the head board when being put through the shaker challenge! Lol

Also, don’t put your dang finger over the top of the spot you’re shooting a nail into, gonna deflect one through your finger.

@@amsivertson I didn’t realize rustic mean crappy fit and finish; must be the latest casualty of the redefining of words. Well then, China makes tons of rustic stuff. @@amsivertson to think that property joining pieces of material falls under “master class” level carpentry is the mindset and attitude of pure laziness, low quality, and low value, not to mention wasteful as it simply yields disposable items. Like I said, China makes lots of this kind of thing. Anything worth doing, is worth doing well.
