What a haul. Its so amazing that that ugly stone was loaded with crystals. They are beautiful !!! Small ones would make perfect ear rings
@CoinandRelicOntario7 жыл бұрын
Looks like you had fun and managed some great crystals too. Great work and great video!!The herkimer area is one spot that I have failed to collect at yet. Your video has put it atop my list for next year. Cheers, Andrew..
@RoughMarket7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew! Was really fun, no bugs and perfect temperatures. It was a last minute trip for us and we're glad we did. We would head back if we didn't already have the rest of the season planned. Next year we will be heading back searching for the monster pocket that eluded us haha. Highly recommend heading down there. Take a video when you go!

Did you see that Glint at 6.53--6.55. That’s how we speck Sapphires in Australia. Light hits a stone and the Glint gets your attention, but don’t take your eyes of the spot until you pick it up.

The schist seems very tight and compact is that hornblende material that holds these crystals? I live in So Cal not far from the Pala mines that produce Kunzite and a variety of tourmalines and the schist material surrounding most of those gems are similar to a standard pegmatites with large flaking type material surrounding the gem but some of it is a pure white material that is not near as dense as the material surrounding those Herkimer's crystals.

Which of the mines has the best stones? I know some have smaller stones of better quality, and others have larger stones, so which is worth the time to dig? I'm not being fussy, I just don't want to waste my time pounding for tiny stones.
@RoughMarket7 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, I don't really have an answer to that as we've only been to Ace of Diamonds. This year we will be hitting a few more sites and hopefully find more. If you're looking for monsters, they are everywhere but pretty rare. Good luck hunting!
@douglasdobson81106 жыл бұрын
I've been there a couple times I think the Ace of Diamonds mine is the biggest one. It's worth a note that there are road cuts all in that area that have Herkimer Diamonds in them as well. . . . . might find some cool freebies loose on the ground by them
@RoughMarket6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Douglas, I was wondering the same thing! I've heard stories that all over Herkimer County there back roads and cuts that are promissing. I don't think they allow collecting though unless you are on private land with permission.
