I used to live at Roughside as a kid (late 60s early 70s), my parents leased it. Photo album is full of the family photos there. Dad used to be able to drive his old Vanguard up to the house as it was clear of trees and you could see for miles. Went back to check the place out when i was back in the UK in 87/88 (we emigrated to NZ in 74) but it was derelict, It still had some of the furniture mum and dad furnished it with tho, my old baby bath, the big coal range cooker and other stuff. The pig sty at 6:45 was my sisters play house :-) Kinda sad to see it like this, but at least its being used.

Wow, thank you for sharing. I was born in 88 😊. Nice to hear some history first hand 😊. The place has a certain feel to it if that makes sense 🤔. Planning on visiting again in the future and take the drone up as well.

@@getaviewinya2664 We loved the place.I think mum and dad had the lease from about 63/64 till around 72. My sister can remember it way better than me, shes 5 years older, the gardens were nice, it had a nice lawn, it was nice. Looks kinda spooky now tho. 😀

Spent two nights at Roughside early May. Walked up the bank from the car. There's a "hidden" fresh water spring but due to all the wind damage it was impossible to get to it. Much worse than when you were there. Second night I strung my Hammock up in the room top left room and slept like a baby. Some weird noises during the night, think we had a visit from the Fenwick Sisters ;-)

Hi mate, I've never stayed over night in a bothy yet. I've visited a few but roughside and houghton green seem to be quite popular. They are handy places to have. That bothy does have an Erie feel about it 😉.
