wow! this bike is so fun, I have a 2014 250xc and yeah these bikes lug great but i usually stay in 2nd and just wind out 2nd in the top end. that’s what i love most about this bike! amazing power on both top and bottom end! but our bikes could be geared differently, my 2nd gear feels pretty long to me
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
it sure was fun!!! I couldn't get used to the second/third gear thing honestly, but in my race this past weekend it felt much much better. guess its just took some seat time to figure it out. I usually barley ever have to shift on my 300. lotttt more shifting on the 250. but that also adds to the fun I guess. I could be talking out my ass but I feel like my second gear on my XCW is longer but I beleive the gear ratio says otherwise....
@yleld82535 жыл бұрын
SkinnySkinch yeah most definitely. i see what you’re saying about a 300 having more power in 2nd but trust me, this bike will go 2x as fast in 2nd gear. it’s tall, long and strong. i love it

yeah this course was WAYYYYYY rougher than the video made it seem. I am always sore for 1 MAYBE 2 days after a race, I was still sore in my groin area and lower back the morning of the next race 7 days later after this Denver race. just incredible..... its actually very stable at speed moreso Than my 300XCW. fun race but it beat my body up so bad.
@lwil63935 жыл бұрын
Well done, too bad no new tires with some good conditions and berms to work off of. I finally cured the blistered hands by wearing two pair of gloves, a thin inner liner and regular mx glove for outer layer. It is bulky to get used to but stick with it, no more hamburger hands.
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Took me a while to get used to the bike. Also my body wasnt used to such a harsh course/bike. So that took a lot out of me. Lot of factors here. Funny thing is I was basically all but given up by lap 4 just was content with 3rd place and in cruise control just hanging on but when lap 5 came I got a bit of an adrenaline rush and pushed pretty hard. bike didnt beat me up NEARLY as much going much faster so im guessing thats kinda the point of these XC bikes the faster you go the happier they are. lap 4 was 20:41 lap 5 was 18:41. 2 minute faster lap and also my fastest lap of the day. I am thinking with some more conditioning and getting more seat time on the XC platform I can really pick up the pace in these more open faster tracks. the 300 will be more suited to my style than the 250. 300 will be in by July 1st.
@lwil63935 жыл бұрын
I note that my Husky 350FE out of the box is the same way, the more you stand up and the faster you go the smoother it is. For my trail riding it is very harsh, like a stallion it does not want to go slow and is high strung and just wants to go fast. I po poed the glove idea but finally gave up, it works. Remember the concentration lever.

You were saying the 2 gear too short and 3rd too tall, I can't imagine it would be a different transmission from your 300 XCW TPI, probably same. KTM smart mfg co, can't have too many variations on that kind of thing. Did you check to see if it has the same sprocket sizes? If you had the time to set up the 250XC sag, clickers, etc, - please comment about what you thought about the linkage rear suspension vs PDS?
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
Jim G the xcw actually has very different transmission ratio. 1/2/3 gears are all different. The SX bikes have a “close ratio” XC bikes have a “semi close” and xcw has wide ratio trans. The sprockets were same on both bikes 13/50. I think I was more speaking of lack of low end grunt though. If the 250 had the low end grunt of the 300 it could pull 3rd no problem at lower speeds. As far as the linkage, I loved it on the fast stuff bike felt much more stable. However, this trail was made for that XC bike. It’s a fast and rough trail. The xcw shines in slower more technical terrain. They’re both really completely different machines. I will likely keep my xcw and XC300 as I can use them each for specific trails they’re made for. (I have a 300XC on order)
@tomthebattleaxe5 жыл бұрын
The XC bikes have a taller 1st and extremely close 2nd to the XCW. 3-6 are all the same on both bikes. The difference is a 250 revs and a 300 grunts. Its all in riding style mainly
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
@@tomthebattleaxe yeah you are right i looked at the actual gear ratios the other day. that 3rd "feels" longer on the xcw i guess bc i was riding the 300 variant. it just pulled the gear so much more.
@tomthebattleaxe5 жыл бұрын
SkinnySkinch No matter how you look at gear ratios, there will always be something better. Some days I’m super happy with a low first on an XCW and others I think its a complete waste because its only good for 10mph. Some days I could keep an SX bike singing and happy but others I think I would stall an auto clutch. Haha
@josephlay2885 жыл бұрын
Good ride tough conditions there its usually pretty good dirt But looked pretty slick. But I have to say u honestly looked 3 times faster on the 250 specially in the turns an for u not knowing the bike. I'm in the market for a 250 or 300 xc. Or even a 250sx. An change it up to a woods bike. But in your honest opnion if the 250 would have had the recluse an a good tire would you have liked it better than the 300? I've never owned a woods bike always a mx bike. But got hurt so been riding woods alot lately an want to go back 2 stroke. Was wondering what your opinion would be since I'm more used to a full MX bike do you think the XC would be a better choice for me since it's more like a mx bike the the XCW? Just wondering what tour thoughts would be.. And also what's the proce on the 250 your saling?
@josephlay2885 жыл бұрын
And also do you think the Bike woulda felt alot better if the suspension was done for you? Maby it wouldnt have beat you to death instead of soaking it up. Just curious I'm new to the ktm xc an XCWS lol.
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man I did think I felt a little faster too. granted this was a faster track in general than the VCHSS tracks are. If I got used to the bike and set it up properly I think I could def get faster as well on it. to answer your question if you ride a mix of woods and track no question about it get an XC bike. my buddy Sam that won this race had a 2013 250SX for the longest time and just never listened to me about getting an XC. he was a track rider back when he was younger and he felt the SX was just fine for the amount of woods he did. Low and behold his first 2 races on the XC250 he WON both races hahahaha. that SOB!!! the XC bikes are basically an SX bike with a 6th gear, large tank, flywheel weight and 18" rear tire. maybe some mapping differences in the ECU. so you're really getting a track bike that's been set up for the woods. an XCW is purely a woods bike. I mean you CAN ride it on a track, but you won't enjoy it nearly as much as the XC. cool thing is with the air fork you can lower and raise the PSI in the fork to better suit track or woods in all of about 60 seconds. I think im going to ask $6,200 or so for this XC bike but im starting to see quite a few of them listed in the 5,000s range so I may be dreaming a bit there. maybe I didn't get as good of a deal as I originally thought on it. and the amount of money I dumped in im in it almost 6 grand now. we will see. are you local to NC?
@SkinnySkinch5 жыл бұрын
yeah bike def would have felt better if set up properly for me but not a TON. its just in general a much stiffer platform than what im used to on my room temperature butter soft XCW haha. that's the trade off though. you can hit things much faster on the stiffer bikes.
@josephlay2885 жыл бұрын
@@SkinnySkinch Thanks for the response. I appreciate the info on the diffrences in the bikes. That helps me alot. Guess it's time for me to put my bike up forsale so I can make the change back to a 2 stroke lol. Honestly wish I woulda never went to a 4 stroke but I will say I dont wanna sale my 14 CRF450R. I broke my tib fib an crushed ankle at brushy mountain and was down for almost 2 years 3yrs including learning to walk again. So I spent alot of time an money on my Honda when I was down just to have something to do I'd buy parts an work on my bike that's bout all I could do. So I've basically got a brand new bike. It only had like 12 hrs on it when I got hurt an now it's got bout 35hrs total. So I'm gonna hate to see it go. I wish I could just find some1 with a 250 or 300xc wanting a 450 an trade them but I'd prob be getting the short end of the stick if it wasnt newer than mine. Specially with how little my bikes been rode. but its gotta happen cause to me it's not near as woods friendly as a 2 stroke. It' has the air forks as well it's pretty convenient to be abel to change up air pressure to adjust forks. Beats changing springs lol. And yes I'm local N.C. I live in Gaston county NC which is only bout 45 mins from brown mountain an bout 45 from Charlotte. What bout you? Where are u from?

@@josephlay288 Sounds like you have the same disease as me! I enjoy working on them as much as riding them. That CRF450 is definitely an awesome bike. Only problem with 4 strokes is every 3 years the technology gets so much better the bikes values drop SO fast unlike the 2 strokes. Also if it was the CRF450X version those tend to hold value a bit better but theyre geared more towards the more tamed just out there having fun type rider not quite as serious of a bike. Post the bike in the Mideast, NCHSA race pages and I bet you will find someone willing to trade for a 2 stroke. I would have to see it and all the goodies on there but the value is probably in the $4,000 range. maybe a bit more to the right buyer? Sucks about your broken bones that sounds awful... can I ask exactly what happened? I live in Raleigh actually so about 3 hours from Brushy and Brown. Never been to brown but I really want to go one day soon. good job bud! just a tip i would invest in getting some steg pegz its a small company over here in Australia. but they are there little rubber pucks that mount near to your air box and they just it there out of the way but when you start to accelerate and you natural lean back a little the backs of your boots rest on them so the bike is pulling on your legs as well, you don't notice they are there but man they make a huge difference, ever since i put them on my bike it has reduced my arm pump by alot and i find i can ride much longer and harder! they are pretty pricey but they are diffidently worth it! keep up the videos man keep up the good content
