Thanks BrownDio! I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the great idea! I'm going to have to check into figuring out a way to shoot from that angle.

Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog Where no one notices the contrast of white on white And in between the moon and you The angels get a better view Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right Well, I walk in the air between the rain Through myself and back again Where? I don't know Maria says she's dying Through the door, I hear her crying Why? I don't know 'Round here, we always stand up straight 'Round here, something radiates Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis And she walks along the edge Of where the ocean meets the land Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus She parks her car outside of my house And takes her clothes off Says she's close to understanding Jesus And she knows she's more than just a little misunderstood She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous 'Round here, we're carving out our names 'Round here, we all look the same 'Round here, we talk just like lions But we sacrifice like lambs 'Round here, she's slipping through my hands Woah oh oh Sleeping children better run like the wind Out of the lightning dream Mama's little baby better get herself in Out of the lightning She says it's only in my head She says, shh, I know it's only in my head But the girl on the car in the parking lot Says, Man, you should try to take a shot Can't you see my walls are crumbling? Then she looks up at the building Says she's thinking of jumping She says she's tired of life She must be tired of something 'Round here, she's always on my mind 'Round here, hey man, got lots of time 'Round here, we're never sent to bed early And nobody makes us wait 'Round here, we stay up very, very, very, very late I, I can't see nothin', nothin' 'round here You catch me if I'm fallin', you catch me if I'm fallin' Will you catch me? 'Cause I'm fallin' down on you I said I'm under the gun, 'round here I'm innocent, I'm under the gun, 'round here And I can't see nothin', nothin' 'round here

Beautiful. I can hear the lyrics in the keys. I'm going to use your soundtrack and upload a video cover. I will of course credit you for the piano. Thank you.

Thank you so much! That’s great to hear because that’s exactly why I played it the way I did - because I could hear the lyrics in my head. And yes, please upload your video cover!

Thanks for replying to my email. I can only write back through here unless you give me your email. I play a lot of jazz piano so I’m always trying to figure out fills between chords, like drummers. I wrote out a lot of your version of rain king. You tended to bounce around Bm and D and lot. Also you would play off the two chords you were moving between, like Bm D D D D BM D. If you had to move between D and E you might put in a little progression or hit them both for a bit before settling in on the E. So while I can’t see your improv, hopefully one day, can you suggest some overall progressions or fills that work? I tried replying but it bounced back. I think you have to reply to my comment. Just a student of the field trying to find out how to get from chord 1 to chord 2 and have some fun in the middle. Any general tips? Like play the IV or try and playing the melody between chords? Something? Anything!?! Just a fan

Hey there Matthew! Other than the bridge, I'm really not doing too much improv on this one. I'm just following the traditional sheet music's melody line and chord pattern. For the most part, the main chord progression for the verse is D - A/C# - Bm7 - A. And then the chorus is D - Bm - D - E. For the full chord progression, check out this Piano/Vocal/Guitar version on MusicNotes.com. www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0064370 That's the version I use as a guide. Although, I'm just using it for the melody and chords. The only thing I do different with the chords is in the bridge and the final verse and chorus. In those sections, I often had a second to the chords (so add a E note to the D chord and add an B note to the A chord). It gives it a bit of a country sound, which is similar to the way the song sounds when the Counting Crows perform it slow. Does that help at all? Feel free to reach out to me at info@johnbaumgardner.net. Happy to help!
