Another good video. I have started something new. I watch training/riding videos with the audio off. Horses don't understand human language. If I can't understand what the trainer/rider is asking the horse to do, with out him telling me, how can the horse figure it out? You pass. I can pretty much understand what you are trying to communicate to the horse. Thank You.

That is such a cool idea. Do you go back and watch with sound?

I'm curious why you chose to ride in a hackamore when it is only the horse's 4th ride? I would think it should be ridden in a side pull or a snaffle until it is going well being ridden two handed and then one-handed. Once it is going well being ridden one-handed in a snaffle or side pull transitioning to a hackamore makes sense if that's what you want to do (although I personally don't see the point of a hackamore, but I have no objection if the horse is prepared correctly.)

Halters and hackamore before bits. Lots of great videos on the subject. I recommend Pat Puckett videos.

@@doncobb9451 I've checked several videos and sites and even asked a few trainers (clinicians) personally, but never get an actual understanding of the issue. It seems more of a choice based on tradition rather than rationale. Many western trainers and clinicians even seem to agree with me. If you can refer me to a site that can answer the question with a logical explanation I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Well Im not sure you really understand what a hackamore is for. The idea behind the hackamore is to teach the horse to handle.
