What is the purpose of this exercise? what does it improve? because by the looks of it you are just pushing each other around.

Hi Boris, thanks for this question. Tai Chi Push Hands (Taiji Tuishou) is 1/3 of the Tai Chi system. It is comprised of several 2-person sensitivity drills that strengthen and increase the flexibility of both practitioners. Since Tai Chi is similar to “time under tension” in weightlifting, the slower you go, the stronger and more aware of your musculature you become. Additionally, once you gain some proficiency in the drills, practitioners branch out to more freestyle balance games that can evolve to the sport of Tai Chi World Cup Style Push Hands, which looks similar to Greco-Roman and Sumo with similar, albeit friendlier rules. What you’re watching is one of those trestle balance games. The skills players train here are applicable to all martial arts and athletic disciplines. Thanks for watching. 🙏☯️💪
