in this video i go over traffic circles and roundabouts. As with all intersections always proceed with caution and scan before approaching a traffic circle. The car closest or inside the round about should have the right of way but safety always wins. Its not a race.
while in the traffic circle move the car slow and the wheel fast. Signal when turning left or right. Do NOT signal when going straight through. 25-30km is a good average speed for traffic circles!!!! However some might be approached even slower.

*Burnaby needs more traffic roundabouts. They would reduce accidents, injuries and deaths by approximately 90%*

Hi, still a little unclear on the timing of shoulder checks in a roundabout. Are there any shoulder checks if driving straight though? As in, do you shoulder check right as you enter/exit? And what is the timing on a left shoulder check as you are turning left in a roundabout? As you begin the left turn around it? Thanks!

Like i said in the video, its not a must to shoulder check when going straight. The timing of the SC remains the same as in at any other intersection 3-5 seconds before turning.
@MatthewTaylorBlais

Thanks! Got it. I guess I am thinking about a left SC for a left turn differently because, as with going straight, you enter a roundabout going slightly right, and when you begin to go left around it you're just following the curve of the road, and then to exit on this left turn you go right again - so is there any point where you have to look over your left shoulder when in a roundabout? Hopefully that makes sense. @@spindrivingschoolbookedtil7125

I've always signaled to the left when taking the third exit / making a left turn yet from hearing the opinions of several (mainly older) people (online and in person) they literally believe a left turn signal means you'll be going the wrong direction in the roundabout...

Thank you great video! If both vehicles get to the roundabout at the same time, the one on the right has the right of way correct? ( Canada)

Yes. Generally that is how it should work!!!!!

Do you give way to the vehicle on the left that's about to enter the roundabout (i've been doing this since I started driving here)? I've been driving in Australia and roundabouts are easy coz everyone knows what they're doing (as we drive on the opposite side of the road we give way to traffic on the right if 2 vehicles arrive at the same time) and they use their indicators but here I realised not everyone here knows what they're doing as some would stop in the roundabout to let me in and that, to me, is so wrong

Hi. Technically the car inside or the closest one to the roundabout should have the right of way, then it would be the car to your right. Two or more vehicles can move through the roundabout in theory as long as they are not crossing paths. However most people here have no idea how to go through them so you just close your eyes and cross your fingers and hope it all goes well. Hope that helps. Cheers

Thank you for the video! do you need to signal right when you exit a roundabout?

Hi, you do not have to signal upon exiting a roundabout, however if you do that is ok.

ICBC says to signal your exit so that those just entering and yielding know that you're exiting and not continuing past them

Just to ensure I'm on the right page , are you saying I don't have to slow to 30 at the yellow speed signs before the round about ?
@spindrivingschoolbookedtil7125
@spindrivingschoolbookedtil7125 3 жыл бұрын
You don't!!! as ALL yellow speed signs are only suggestions. However i would recommend keeping that speed if you're not an experienced driver or on a road test.

Hello, if there is another car arrived that first/before me and has stopped just before the yield sign, do I need to yield to them? In general, if there are other cars stopped outside of the traffic circle, do I treat it like a stop sign in a way? Thanks.

Technically. The 1st car to the intersection oundabout has the right of way or then the car to the right side.

If during a driving test you need to do a hard stop to avoid an accident by a driver that is not following the rules will the examiner mark that against you? An example is you enter a roundabout and someone pulls in cutting you off and you need to apply the brakes strongly because they pull in cutting you off? Or is that sort of thing my error? I have not encountered a reason to do a hard stop in my lessons so far but I have always thought if I needed to do that I am making an error that needs to be corrected by anticipating problems and being ready for other drivers mistakes? I am still a good ways away from being ready and my instructor says I am making good progress which makes me happy. I am interested in learning more about defensive driving and plan to try and learn those skills before I take my N. I can't imagine not learning those sorts of skills. Right now after 6 lessons I have learned to maintain my lane, apply brake and gas appropriately and proper distance management from other cars in front of me. I am still mastering turns and roundabouts. I have a lot left to learn and I am in the lower mainland. My instructor only offers hour long classes on the road and I was curious if there is any advantage to taking lessons from you while taking lessons from my current instructor?

All driving is situational so it all depends on how it happens and how you react. Usually if you STOP hard but still avoid a dangerous action you should be fine but every examiner is different. So its never just BLACK and WHITE. As for lessons i usually do 1.5 hours which gives you more time on the road. I have students who have 2-3 different instructors and they are fine with that. Everyone is different.

The advantage would only be in your favor if your instructor is not good.

same with AB, there's no "left turn" or "straight through" when you're in a circle.

@@ifallenzero6002 Roundabouts do have still have straight, right and left. It is, basically a road that becomes a circle. With turn signals, as you approach the roundabout use the turn signals the some as at any intersection. (Understanding that a left turn is a roundabout left.) Check out some videos for clear examples.

@@safedriverspei8543 im just saying in alberta there's nothing that states that. it lumps roundabouts and traffic circles in the same category, only differentiating "how big the middle is" and treating them as the same thing.
