This song was here for me when I was 14 now I’m 21 going on 22 this October, and it’s so nostalgic. It’s crazy how music can portray an exact emotion exactly when you needed it. And now I’m here feeling the exact way when I was 14. Life Is mysterious and beautiful in that sense.

I'll never forget the first girl I had serious relationship with. We were in a relationship class together. There was one time when the guys were asked to have a conversation with one of the girls in our class. I walked up to this random girl in the room, and we just had a good conversation. Eventually, I managed to slip her my number. Days later, she called me on the phone, and we kept on talking, and we eventually started dating. Her name was Anna. We were an inseparable couple. Anna could have even been my date to the senior prom. But in 2011, my dad's job in Huntsville foreclosed, and I was forced to move. And she broke up with me because she didn't think it would work out, having to fly just to see each other. I think of her whenever I hear this song.

So cold I know you can’t believe it Some times you gotta face the feelin’ When you don’t care if you get up again There’s a thousand things I will not understand How you're dealin’ with the hell I put you through If I had my way I would be right there next to you Certain things in life you cannot change Certain things I hope you know I care I’ve been alone too many nights Too proud to tell you when you’re right A little patience would’ve helped me then Locked like a brake has been the common standard All the angels above the earth I beg, set this message right into her head Certain things in life I cannot take When I’m away

I'm not sure of the meaning behind the lyrics, but somehow this bittersweet melody brings me back to my childhood with my family being together. In 1992 when I was 12 years old my family was killed in a tragic car accident with a semi-truck that rolled on top of them. I was at the roller skating rink at a friends birthday party. My father, my mother, my older sister, and two younger brothers were all killed instantly. I remember being confused when my grandparents showed up to the skating rink to pick me up. My grandpa hugged me and began crying and I already knew something was wrong. That day forever changed the rest of my life. My grandparents became my guardians and they did the best they could and loved me very much. Unfortunately, by 16 years old I was involved in drugs and alcohol and by 18 I was a full-fledged addict. As a result of my addiction, I also began to sell drugs as most addicts do. At 21 one of my dopehead acquaintances became a confidential informant which led to me being charged with drug trafficking. I ended up taking a plea deal and was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, I was sentenced to 4 years at Chino CIM. Because of prison politics, that sentence turned into 8 years. Both my grandparents passed away during my sentence (this part I've struggled to forgive myself for). When I got out I got into a sobering house and into AA. Now I've managed to maintain my sobriety since 2010. I don't usually feel much emotion but for some reason when I first heard this song in 2013 it brings me back to my innocence before I lost my family. I remember my Dad David, he used to play with me and my sisters in the sprinklers after he got home from work. He used to chase us and rub our faces in his sweaty armpits when he was working in the yard. He was a tough guy with a big heart. He always hugged us every night before sleep. I remember my Mom Gwen, the sweetest person with a bright smile. She loved to turn on Whitney Houston and dance in the kitchen while she made us food. She always said "I love you kiddo". I remember my big sister Rebecca, she always gave me kisses on the cheek because she knew I hated it. She loved the movie the Labyrinth and would watch it over and over again. She always shared with me even though I was always selfish. My little brother Ryan, he used to argue with me who was the coolest ninja turtle. He liked Donatello and I liked Leonardo. We used to wrestle and pillow fight until one of us got hurt and cried to mom. My baby brother Derek, he was just 2 years old. His first word was actually a sentence. He said "bad boys bad boys what ya gonna do?". That was because my dad used to watch the show cops all the time. That was only a short time before the accident. Wow typing this out was painful. It's crazy to go back in time because most of my memories from that time of my life have faded. Sometimes I wonder what all our lives would have been like today if that accident never happened. But I guess theres certain things in life you cannot change.

I am so sorry for your loss and what happened throughout your life. I know this is nothing compared to what you went through, but I lost my grandparents right after high school. My grandfather had early onset alzhheimers and we moved in with my grandma to help. It was a slow painstaking process we watched. My grandmother passed suddenly a few months later. She was my rock. My dad passed away 10 years later 3 months before my wedding. I was diagnosed with a mild type of leukemia within a year of that and find myself now in a situation where the family I have left don't really care too much about me. My son has a girlfriend that has turned him against my husband and I and I found myself crying today at work just missing how life used to be when the people that cared about me were here and we used to spend time together and enjoy each other. Back when I was healthy and full of life. I hate that I know they will be gone someday and I regret every minute I didn't spend with my family that is gone, but I feel like they are gone too and the more I try to be with them the more it hurts that they don't love me anymore. Thank God for my husband. I would be totally lost without him. I feel your pain reading this, but can't even imagine what you went through. I am so thankful for the precious time I had with them, but also wonder if things could be different and what I did wrong to get here. I hope you are doing well and have found happiness in your life. I know being a nurse has distracted me from my own pain and helping others really keeps me sane! I was not expecting to find this looking for a song, but I feel like I found it for a reason. I hope you know you are an amazingly strong person for not giving up. It is easy to give up, but you didn't! Stay strong and enjoy life. You deserve it!

Hearing this song makes me recall my first serious relationship. English is not our mother tongue, and I am the one who's better at it than my ex-boyfriend, so I would always try to speak English with him whenever I had a chance. One day, I sent him this song and he liked it so much that he even remembered the lyrics. The first movie we watched together was "Warm Bodies"... We broke up because he said he didn't love me anymore. Things get complicated and then he dated another girl, which is sad :)) The worse thing is that, I am still dealing with the post-broke-up though it's almost been a year
