Watch the movie and you’ll understand that her actions are correct. She stood by Mike when he lost everything and he promised her he would never play cards again. Mike was the one who was unfaithful when he went and played cards again, and then he lied about it and got caught. So she left him. That’s 100% fair.
@forgotaboutbre3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Even though I identify with Mike in this movie, I can't hold it against Jo for leaving him.
@joemarks37192 жыл бұрын
Asking someone to do, or be, something they cannot, because that's not who they are, is even more unfair. You missed the scene with Petrovsky......." What choice? The last thing I took away from the Yeshiva's is, we can't run from who we are, our destiny chooses us". He tells her later, "Last night was the first time I felt alive, since I got busted at KGB's joint." He is a poker player, that's who he is. If she really loved him she would try to understand this. She just can't grasp the concept of someone wanting to be a poker player vs. a lawyer. Tom Brady's wife has been trying to get him to retire from football for years now. It's not that he doesn't love her, of course he does. But he is a quarterback, that's what he was born to be, that's what he will be as long as he possibly can. He's already said he will play until he sucks at it, and then he will quit. You can't ask someone to leave something they were born to do.

I think she’s upset because he loses a ton of money in the beginning of the movie, so she wants him to quit because he takes too many risks. The bankroll is irrelevant when he could lose it all tomorrow

What @William said earlier and it is also stated in the movie. When Mike lost to KGB at the beginning of the movie, it was Jo and Knish who helped Mike to get on his feet for exchange of a promise that he quits playing and focus on something else. Addicts aren't interested getting good, they strike to easy wins and adrenaline rush, which is why at the end they always lose.

She makes me sick. He can do so much better. She is the type that will only stick around for Sunny Days. She doesn't have the right stuff to weather a storm. She's weak and he's strong. He'll be happier in life than her in the long run. She seems like the type that will always seek the easiest and most comfortable path but when you sell out and abandon others to get ahead then karma my friend will catch up with you and in the end you won't be happy and no one in your life will truly care about you at all since they will be like her and only stick around during sunny days. Basically her love is conditional upon you obeying her since in her world she comes first and you come last. In reality those who do this will be seen as the least among people since they were selfish and only cared about themselves their whole lives.
@forgotaboutbre3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't about obedience though. She left him because they had an agreement together. If Mike agreed not to play cards again out of obedience, then wouldn't that make him weak? Jo stands by her convictions by leaving Mike. That makes her strong.

I love poker and I am all for the protagonist Mike. But Jo had every right reasons to leave him. She stood by him when he lost everything. He promised her not to play again. Then he goes behind her back to play cards then lies? That's low. And she caught him right on time. Why did he have to lie? He couldve just said he met up with Worm, they decided to play poker. No need to lie.
