Make sure atleast once a year with the fire extinguisher you take it out and tap it with a rubber hammer upside-down. It will keep the power loose. Bouncing down the road packs it tight to the side and bottom.

In 2017 we did the entire Route 66 trip from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier and camped the whole way. We even camped in Peach Tree Springs and detoured to hike to Havasu Falls, spending 2 nights at the bottom. One of the most epic places on the planet! We stopped at Pops; Cadillac Ranch; the Bottle Tree Farm and had pie in Adrian , Texas, the half way point (get there early, they still serving at 3!). It was truly a trip of a lifetime!

We just rehabbed a 20 year old trailer. Took it through Pontiac, IL last month on it's shakedown cruise. Yep, the roads into and out of that town nearly undid us, lol! My stomach lurched when I saw that RR crossing. On the return trip my husband wanted to go back and see more of the town. I said nope, I'd had enough rock n roll. If we were there when you were, and I passed, I'll never be forgiven. (I named our rig Ginger because she's a strawberry blond, lol!)

I love the channel. I live in Springfield, MO, home of the Birthplace of Route 66 festival. This might sound crazy, but most locals pronounce it "root 66"...and I just heard the guy at 18:50 say "root 66" in real time. Oddly enough I pronounce route correctly in every other scenario but route 66.

“Have I mentioned how much I like driving the Bird”? What I say every time I get behind the wheel. Recently found elect towing outlet on rear of bus was wired incorrectly by the factory, 18 years ago! May have to add a Route 66 trip to our bucket list, right after the Lewis & Clark trail. This season will be epic!

Since this is the start of a whole series, perhaps you can add a graphic at the fade-in of each new day with “Day X, 8:15am” or something like that. Really helps us put the whole trip into perspective. We get a feel for when your days are starting, taking breaks, ending, etc. Really puts us in the passenger seat for the journey! Glad the wiring is all buttoned up with the Subaru and can’t wait for more pieces of this Route 66 puzzle!

Since we are not full timers, I like to keep all the RV equipment in the trailer itself - ready to hit the road on a moment’s notice. For us, the trailer really needs to be like a self-contained “4cabin in the woods”. Our Blackstone griddle, Nextgen grill & Solo Stove Bonfire all fit in our Lance 2445, which is a 30’ bunkhouse travel trailer similar in size to your Airstream. We also have two directors’ chairs that do not fold like an umbrella chair. The only things in our truck bed are an ice chest and our eBikes, both of which we use at home, too. While Airstreams are very nice and have great inside storage, they are way short on the exterior storage our Lance has.

I have to hand it to you ... driving downtown Chicago to start the road was ambitious. IMHO "Route 66" should be pronounced "root" 66 ... just like the famous namesake song says it. I heard someone point out that "root" is more common in the eastern US and "rowt" more common in the west. I think that's partially true -- people who grew up in the east and it was always root. For me [r\ut] is only used when referring to a specific road (like Route 66) while [r\aUt] is for a course of travel, i.e., paper route, or "I tried a new route today to get to the cabin." I agree with that interpretation. Have a great trip! We look forward to the journey!
