Join us next Sunday as we make our way out of Mears State Park to Silver Lake Dunes and Mackinac Island! If you enjoy the travel videos more, so do we! But we also like answering questions along the way and slowing down our travels this year due to such an unpredictable route! Thanks for being part of this amazing community!

Getting started... I appreciate YOU with your get going with what you have philosophy, don't wait for the perfect rig. I started with a mini-van pulling a small RV nearly 4 years ago, now I have a full size pickup and a 30 foot bunkhouse. The only thing I regret is not getting going sooner. You spend ~85% of the time with your kids by the time they graduate high school, people, no better way to spend quality time with your family, "REAL", QUALITY TIME, than hiking, biking, boating and traveling in an RV. Get your families closer and be happy. :)

When my brother and I were little my parents started with an old 68, 69 or 70 model 21 foot green and white Nomad travel trailer. We had our farm truck, a 76 F250 to pull it. This was obviously before seatbelt laws because we would all pile up and just go. I imagine we looked like the Beverly Hillbillies without all the oil money. But I’ll say this: as uncomfortable as that trailer was I have some of my fondest memories traveling all over the US in that setup. I can still smell my mom frying eggs and bacon and making cinnamon toast while we woke up every morning exploring somewhere new. It brings a happy tear to my eye thinking of those times as I write this while reflecting back.

With COVID-19, some doctors are doing tele-visits. I had one recently with my doctor because we had moved and I didn’t yet have a primary care physician in our new location. After our tele-visit, he refilled my prescription to last until I could find a local doctor. There might be a version of that solution that would work for full timers.

I haven't gotten my notifications in a long time. Glad I clicked. I know you won't see this but the Start thing. We started in a Tent with 3 preschoolers. First real vacation first night got drowned in a Storm, kids scared, we were too and LeAn and Me were Music Majors so in the Rain we just start singing "Row Your Boat". And it was loud the kids join in 6, 5, and 4 Y.O.s we got wet but we all laughed and laughed. It set the tone, we were making memories. which turned into 3 popups and now our 2 Hardside 24FT Grandma and Grandpa special North Trail. Our mid thirties Kids now all still tell us that very first trip was the best vacation we ever took. We're only 58 so a long way to go and many more memories to make.

27:48 "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are", Theodore Roosevelt Also! (24:46) You don't even need a tent to get camping! Many many parks have cabins you can rent out. Do be aware that cabins often require reservations *FAR* in advance.

I've been watching you guys almost from the beginning. We don't do all season camping, we do week long to ten day trips. What I've found is we try to empty our home fridge the week before a camping trip. Next time we shop, we buy for camping. Meaning, alot of outside grill food, smaller containers of milk, coffee etc just in the interest of saving space. I bring the camper home from the storage facility three days before we go. Clean out the water system, check tires, brakes and make sure everything works. I check the truck out, and start packing out the grills, tools and toys. (Bikes, tubes, etc) hook up the night before. Clothes and food are already in the camper. Fridge has been running on shore power the whole time on high. That gives us maybe four hrs of more of travel time to keep our food cold. If we expect to go out further then that, we buy local to our destination. Our reservations are usually made as long as a year in advance to take advantage of park specials. Everything else is pretty much covered in the video.

Enjoyed this video! I wanted to mention that I recently viewed your video on weight capacities of a vehicle. You did an excellent job explaining those details. We started out with a vehicle that was at its max pulling our 25’ ultra light. I was constantly fretting about the weight in the vehicle and the tongue weight. All the the RV dealership (I wouldn’t buy a new RV again) looked at was the tow capacity of the vehicle. I guess selling an RV was more important than the safety of their customers. At any rate, I finally sold our Expedition and bought a diesel 3/4 ton PU. What a difference! I can even travel with a full fresh water tank without having safety anxiety. Thanks again for sharing your experience! Hope to see you n the road sometime.

Once we we retire we’ll be on the road more than we are home we hope. And of course I want a bigger rig and a newer truck something with lots of bells and whistles. And then I hear you guys and I come back to earth. What we have is fine. For my wife and I and the 2 dogs it is perfectly adequate. Plus have you seen the price of new trucks!? Great info thanks. It's also good to watch/listen to how you interact during this kind of video. I'd like to add to the conversation that if you're unsure about an RV lifestyle, or, like me, you love your home, live in a small country or have animals that can't travel, there's nothing wrong with renting a campervan/RV/travel trailer for an extended holiday. Off season is best for cost, longer rentals for negotiating discounts, but be careful to choose your rental company and vehicle with care. Cheapest often isn't the best unless you want road restrictions and a vehicle that isn't being well cared for and checked between rentals.

Your advice given for starting with what you have at the time is so relevant. We will not always have our kids with us, and for the most part, we all should make the most of the time we have, as we may lose some of our family members prematurely, and miss those precious moments. Some of the best times spent with our kids didn't tie back to the amount of money spent. Some of our best times were just a long walk on the beach with our loved ones. It is very informative and I appreciate it especially for someone like me a former Greyhound and Coach America motor coach driver starting my new career as a full time RV person and starting from the ground up. I never thought that I would take up driving again due to Covid-19. However, i'm really looking forward to it after watching you folks on You Tube. Best to you, Thanks.

When our family vehicle kicks the buck, I think a Ford bronco would be the best trade up for us. I was looking at Jeeps... then my husband shows me the bronco, and I'm like. What, love!!!!!

Here in Canada, coastal areas are great for laundry and showers. The marinas offer it dirt cheap. Many of them have a restaurant, general store and liquor store attached as well, with "regular Joe" prices.

Just found your channel. WOW! Wish I had seen this 7 months ago. I would have given more thought to topics you touched on that I didn’t. We bought a 45’ motorhome towing a Dodge truck. We have previous experience but years ago and more recreational than anything. We loved it then. Now we are full timing. The jury is still out. But, I’m going in search of your channel in full and binge. Keep up the great work. Your guys rock! Love from a Texas couple!

Hey guys, Another great video. We have been following you on and off since your "First Flat Tire" as well when we were contemplating full timing. In October of 2017 we pulled the plug and went full time running from the cold and snow of New England and have always seemed to find our way to Tucson each winter so far. Currently we're back in New England preparing for our "fourth season". As far as saving money, we use grocery store courtesy points for gas where we can (Not sure it saves us a whole lot, but we use it) and with maintenance, If its something I can fix, I'll do it rather than pay the high cost of a technician. Any doubt though, the truck or camper goes to the shop. We also use the National Parks Annual Pass which pays for itself after like 3 or 4 parks. We have also used some State Park Passes which help if you're spending a lot of time in one particular State exploring. Thanks for all your info, keep it coming. Ford ads okay here too, currently running an F-150 here.

Great video idea. We’ve thought about making the same video too on our channel. We are full timers, but we travel the country, to the destination my employer sends us to. Some places we pay $525/mo (right now) for a campground in Wisconsin, all the way up to $1500-1700/month in CA. Luckily most of our fuel is paid by my employer. When we started our initial unexpected cost was propane. We knew we’d be spending money on propane, but not as much as when we started out, mainly because we were someplace it was snowing when we started out as full timers. We have since bought electric heaters.

That was very illuminating. We have started small (Nissan Frontier and 3500lb travel trailer), it’s a used trailer that didn’t have the floor plan we ultimately want but it’s a huge upgrade from tent and air mattress which we did from 1983 until 2018. I’m looking at the current run on RV’s as a potential future increased used RV inventory and will wait to make any upgrades until this pandemic subsides. Also I’m not finding it any more or less difficult to secure reservations at Fl. State Parks there are some so desirable that they have always been hard to get into.

I watched 1 video so far and I love you guys so, I'll be looking at more of your videos. Love the humor. You both look younger than I expected to be Full time RVers. Good for you! I'm 65 1/2 and plan to start RVing part time soon after I retire this month and your tips will be helpful. I hope to travel several months at a time to see the US in the summer and to Bird hunt in the fall. Two suggestions: 1) Buy a restored mid 70s Bronco instead of a new one. I think you'll probably be happier with an older Bronco than a new one and it will probably be cheaper. Also I suspect the new one is a lot of plastic and thin metal. They they don't make trucks like they did in the 70s. It will also probably last longer than a aew Bronco and depreciate less. 2) consider a Diesel pusher and tow your antique Bronco . FYI, My 1992 Foretravel 36 U225 gets 9 to 10 mpg pulling a jeep liberty 65 to 70 MPH. A little better if I run 60 to 65mph. I've made 3 round trips since early July totaling 4300 miles. Planning to use a 2000 Fleetwood Discovery on my next trip since I got it fixed recently. It is newer with slideouts but, definitely not built like a Foretravel.

We tent camped for years (including our honeymoon in a 2 person pup tent), and we don’t remember the bad times, you are correct in that the memories get better as years pass. We upgraded to a pop-up, until health and work schedule interfered (life happens), but now we are in a 42’ 5th wheel (very similar to your toy hauler) but COVID has kept us at home due the cancellation of nearly every reservation we’ve made this year. Some retirement! 🤷🏻‍♂️

The best advise I got from you is to start now with what you have. I did wait until I payed off the mortgage, because I was very close anyway, but then bought a new travel trailer that weighs less than 4000 lbs. It was just what I needed and it wasn't too much for my half ton truck in the mountains of Colorado which was epic. I am from Texas so we don't have many of those here. Keep doing what you do and I will be looking forward to your next adventure.

Airstreams are traveling trailers! Great to pull! (I told you that you need to be careful because you will forget it is back there behind you!) love, love, love towing an Airstream! Camping is when you appreciate a trailer with slides or a 5th wheel! Started with an Airstream while traveling and when obligations made us rethink that we switched to full time renting of a space in a campground. That had benefits of it’s own! We gained all the benefits of lake living without purchasing lake property! Loved it! That is until the day the storm hit and the tree fell the entire length of that Airstream! Flat as a pancake! That is when we explored other options and settled on a 38 ft 5th wheel and never looked back!
