Just got back from a trip on 66 and you are correct. It is a difficult ride and some of the original areas are hard to navigate and very rundown. Rode form Dwight Illinois to Santa Fe New Mexico.

Excellent! Good brief rundown. I completely agree with your take about venturing off and not sticking 100% to 66. Also, that Museum in Pontiac is terrific! We've been twice. Ride Safe!! Cheers!

Route 66 really has the BEST food! We also appreciate the old gas stations, the signage is super cool.

I have done parts of it. Some cool spots to stop at. I am doing it in segments. I have had several dual sport / adv bikes over the years but my wife likes to go with and while solo I can handle them fine but with her on it’s a lot of strain on my knees and at my age it was not good. So I am on a HD triglide now and it’s great. I live the smaller adv bikes , around 650 or so. The bigger ones like the 1200 , 1150 GS were too top heavy off the road.

What has age got to do with it? What, you want to wait even longer deciding whether to or not? Or worse, you regret never doing it. Go do it.

@@2ndborn186 unfortunately my pension does not permit me such high expenses. I figured about $15000 to $18000 for airline tickets, renting a bike and all the daily expenditures for about 30 days’ travelling. Thank you for your encouragement. Ride safe

Great video as always! Are you going to detail the K1600 Issues encountered on this trip? Or already covered in one of the other 60 day trip vids? Going to look at a used 2012 model GT w/ 24k on the clocks curious about issues that sounds like interrupted your plans 😮👎🏻 on this recent trip.

I pretty much covered the issues (over heating) during the trip videos. The K's seem to be prone to having the radiator get dirty and over heating. I am told this happens more to folks like me who ride them for long miles, but I did not think the radiator looked that dirty at 15,000 miles. There were no further issues that occurred after the bike was serviced in Vegas; it actually ran very well after that. When I got home, I looked at how much this bike was costing to service, as well as the breakdown, and decide that it was not the right one for me, based on how I ride. I just did not trust that I was not going to have another issue at some point in the future and I did not want it to happen when I was in the middle of nowhere on a trip. I did do a longer video for subscribers to my website, but have no plans to release it to KZbin. The bike is up at my local dealer for sale and I am not going to do that too them. I sincerely hope that the next owner has a many trouble free years with the bike. It really is an amazing bike to ride. Hope this helps, thanks!

Pulling the trailer was great. It pulled very easy and it was nice to have all the extra space. For a two up trip with camping gear, it is the way to go.

I was really disappointed with the Midwest areas of the route. Very slow going and traffic. I really enjoyed the western sections. Thanks for sharing.

We rode Route 66 in August and found a lot of the smaller roadside attractions closed. The Launch Pad had been closed for several weeks according to some locals we spoke with - of course we were able to get photos, but alas no dogs…our next disappointment was Henry’s Rabbit Ranch, closed up tight - no clue why. Enjoyed your series and watched it while we were riding a similar - minus the Utah and Las Vegas stage- Route as you and Kevin

The issues were covered pretty well in my trip videos. When I got back, I decided that between the issues and the costs, it was not the bike for me. That is pretty much it.

The history buff in me causes me to want to traverse Illinois for the Lewis and Clark Museum. The geologist in my salutes the Meteor Crater stop. So sorry the Hornville Tavern in Euphoria, IN didn't make the restaurant list but that is the price they pay for being out of smoked pork chops. Unforgiveable.

Lincoln Hwy?

To my understanding, route 50 is part of the historic Lincoln Hwy that was one of the first transcontinental road systems. Like route 66, prior to interstates.
