Great video mate! Was just replacing the air filter in my 2018 r1200 GS Adventure,I was having a few issues with removing the centre cowl fairing peice above the fuel tank,as soon as I loosened off the plastic winglettes as described in this video she came off with ease! Thanks!

Nice little video. My bike is new only 1500 miles so far so don't need to change my filter yet. But great tip with the gas cap. I have been having trouble with it during fueling. In fact I've smacked it down like you mentioned NOT to do. I have taken note of your tip/advise and will check it and use your method the next time i fill up.

Thanks for the kind words. When you get a chance, open the fuel filler cap and check the mechanism for damage……specifically the small pin…..just in case. If closing still proves problematic, even with the “proper” method, may I suggest loosening the securing collar (Torx head bolts) just enough to realign things and then snug down evenly (using cross pattern same as wheel nuts) but NOT “He Man” tight 😉. Let me know how you go and if I can help further.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I'm currently reorganising the workshop and adding and restoring 2 lathes and a milling machine plus setting up a welding plant so the Channel has been somewhat neglected of late but I will be shooting a short video very soon. Keep an eye open for it 🧐

Also if you ever having issues with the keyless lid not opening properly,as it has happened numerous times with my 2018 r1200 GSA and only when I coincidentally had 1 bar of fuel left! Try applying downwards pressure on the upper part of the fuel lid and I guarantee it opens every time.

I’ve not experienced that issue but have noted your advice in case it does. Thanks for taking the time to share your findings as it could well help others now and in the future. Stay safe.

Hi there did the filter make any difference to the running of the bike was it any better ?? thanks Rob
@TheMotorradRider3 жыл бұрын
TBH I have not really had much of a chance to really find out due to work commitments and then repeated Covid-19 lockdowns but what chances I’ve had, not a huge improvement but I do believe that accelerating in top gear is better. My main reason for the change was the fact of me living in Australia and therefore reducing any quantities of dust (and particulate size) entering the engine so hopefully increasing engine life expectancy. Hope that helps and thanks for watching the video and taking the time to ask your question.

How many kilometers were on the factory air filter that you removed in the video?

3329 klms

@@TheMotorradRider Thanks. That explains why it looked so clean. I am at about 13K kms and since I have a new air filter on hand, I'll replace it. When parts are harder to get to (compared to a car) such as this air filter, it doesn't make sense not to replace it even if it still has life in it.

Hi you don’t need to put K & N Filter oil or any oil on the filter?
@TheMotorradRider3 жыл бұрын
This is a pre-oiled UNI Filter and does not require further treatment prior to installation. When re-oiling all of my UNI filters, I only use the recommended UNI Filter oil and not K&N due to potential differences in viscosity levels and the fact that one (UNI) is foam and the other (K&N) is cotton. Thanks for the question and for watching the video.

Hello. and when I opened the air filter housing I found oil inside the housing in???
@TheMotorradRider2 жыл бұрын
Without seeing the bike, having a chance to check things over and assuming your machine has a standard paper filter, it sounds like your engine is experiencing “blow by” which is where the pistons, piston rings or bores are worn and allowing combustion gases to pressurise the crankcase but that is what IT COULD BE. Unless you’re running an oil impregnated foam filter like the one I fitted in the video that has weeped a little oil into the the filter housing, I would be looking to diagnose what you’ve found before too much longer. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for watching the video and asking the question.

Can you tell me about the tool you are using?
@TheMotorradRider3 жыл бұрын
Certainly. The tools are part of two sets, one metric hex head (Allen) (blue) and the other Torx (green). There is a third set available, imperial hex head and that is coloured red. They are available from Hare and Forbes here in Australia and are manufactured to a very high standard (IMHO), in Taiwan. Here are links to make life easier: Metric hex set: www.machineryhouse.com.au/H820 Imperial hex set: www.machineryhouse.com.au/H821 Torx set: www.machineryhouse.com.au/H822 They are fantastic sets and a worthy addition to your workshop. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to ask the question.

What model year is your bike?
@TheMotorradRider3 жыл бұрын
She’s a mid 2018 and apparently the very last of that model to come into Australia.
