air filter clean bmw gs 1200 uni filter- essential motorcycle maintenance

Must do, essential maintenance on bmw motorcycle. Oil and pre oil filter clean and re oil. If you ride off-road often this maintenance must be done regularly.

What kind of oil do you use to reoil the filter?

The main filter looked clean as if there was no dust to catch. What does it do if the socks are doing all the filtering? May as well leave it out. Why clean the springs?

The main filter was actually pretty dirty too, couldn’t see in video….. the pre filter is just an additional precaution and helps more dirt not getting in.it extends the life of main filter, which is more expensive and is the last line of defence. Engine will have cleaned air longer. Pretty qik and easy to clean pre filter.

Is the prefilter needed if you run the foam main filter? Can it breathe freely?

Bike still breathes but it is more important to clean it regularly or bike will starve but better than stuffing engine.

Across oz on desert trips this is a good precaution to use pre filters socks.

@@Adsventures But it cant breathe as well because there are more filters in line and the main filter should stop anything getting thru. Also isn't the filter oil carcinogenic, you should be dispersing it with disposable gloves.

@@readymix40 I usually use gloves but I was in a hurry silly me. The bike still breathes well with both filteration in. But if you feel engine starving it’s sure filters are clogged . It tends to make you clean main filter more often . It’s one of them tings some guys like some guys don’t.

Only one pre-filter? I used to run one on each side, but first time I removed them for cleaning, they tore apart.

They must have been old perhaps if they tore apart. They get super dusty in central oz and then wet turn to mud cakes.
