Thank you for this... This works for dragging in MIDI from Maschine to each track... Can you explain how to PLAY and RECORD the Sounds on the separate Maschine Pads and have this record each sound to the separate tracks in Ableton?

Hi, I've run into a small road block following this tutorial. I must note that I'm using Maschine 2.3 and the tutorial is using 2.0 which may have something to do with this. In the video you show how to route up to 16 pads/sounds out of Maschine and into Ableton as MIDI tracks using Live's External Instrument plugin and MIDI routing options in Maschine 2.0's mixer. I get to a point and I'm doing ok and have successfully routed all 16 pads/sounds into Live and have them playing on separate MIDI tracks. I do this by dragging the little MIDI cross-hair from Maschine into Live's Session view which automatically creates a clip for each sound/track (like it shows in the video). What I'm struggling with is that in Live's session view I start to map out a jam over a number of scenes which will form the foundation of me 'playing out' my arrangement (as Live's session view is designed for) however as I click through the scenes in Live to hear the alternate layout of clips the audio doesn't change. For example in Maschine, on group A I have 8 drum sounds including everything from my kick to a clave with hats/snares/claps etc in between. Each sound is routed out of Maschine into Live onto it's own MIDI track. In Live's session view I fill 8 scenes, starting with just the kick on scene 1 then progressing to include all 8 sounds on scene 8. When I play the track in Live it doesn't matter what's on any particular scene I try to play, ALL tracks/sounds will be playing regardless of what I map out in Session view. Eg, I can't just play the kick alone, then the kick and snare, then add the hat and so on...So I guess I'm saying that the routing into Live works however it doesn't allow me to manipulate the structure of the track in the way I usually do with clips/scenes in Live's session view. Hope that makes sense. If you get what I'm trying to do and can assist with a workaround it would be really helpful. Another thing, as Loki did in the video I can't successfully manipulate the imported MIDI patterns in Live so that they play a different pattern than what was originally routed in. For example the kick pattern I bring across to Live from Maschine is a standard 4/4 beat. I experimented with changing this to some random pattern to get my head around the possibilities etc however the audio of the 4/4 beat doesn't change. Maybe I've done something wrong throughout the process or something's changed in Maschine 2.3 since the video was recorded in 2.0. There were a few minor differences in my 2.3 software GUI to what Loki's was displaying in his 2.0. Very long winded note but I hope you can steer me in the right direction.

Ash Lee It was a bit TL:DR, but this maybe related to what you seem to be mentioning. When you have the instance of M2.x open in Live, make sure that its set on a scene that has NO patterns in it. That way all you will hear are the patterns/midi events being sent from Live to M2.x. I hope this helps and is of relevance to your Maschine/Live woes :)

I route the audio but use 3 audio tracks instead of midi tracks, select "in" for the I/O in ableton, and then set it up using the midi routing similar to what you have done. That way I get the audio out of maschine, but still use it as it was intended, a drum machine.

great tutorial, thanks. One question..... when loading a new kit however the audio / midi routing defaults back to Maschine's own routing within Maschine. Anyway (besides physically saving ones own kits with this routing inside Maschine) ideas to a work around? This is why I despise Maschine! So poor of NI to not allow users to override routing with loading of a new kit.

With this in mind would you still be using maschines effects or can you use both from Ableton & maschine ? Like on the kick applying say a compressor or when your side chaining what would be the best way to apply these effects ?

It seems this must be saved with each kit individually. That is why this is ridiculous! NI do not listen to their customers. We have been screaming about routing configuration for years in Maschine.

Cool man. I have a question. In "External Instruments" my maschine is showing up with stereo outs such as 3/4, 5/6 7/8 etc....How did you change yours to mono? .I can't get anything to come out of anything past 3/4.........my kick comes out of 3/4 but nothing else works. Any idea?? Thanks!

This has worked great for me for some time! Recently I started having trouble with it, though. When, for example, I just drag a single kick to the arrangement view (like @ 12:00) and play it it doesn't play just the kick, it's playing the whole maschine group (kick + snare + hihat, etc.). It also doesn't stop at the end, it rather plays the complete group infinitely. Any suggestions? Thanks xx

unfortunately you can't, as far as i know, most VSTs have this type of limitation. I personally just load up another instance of Maschine.

Nshan Endpattern Yes, when I try to load another instance of maschine, the daw crashes. :/ Right now I'm just exporting each sound as audio.

Charly Fariseo That's really trance man, Ive never run into that issue. Is your daw and plugin up to date? if you're on a mac, try using the AU version instead of the VST or the other way around.

I believe the same rules apply for audio as well. If memory serves me right you can drag out the individual tracks. :)

But when I create the whole song in maschine and I just want to use ableton only for eqing,using some effects etc ? Isn't there a quicker way to assign the whole "ready" song & patterns in ableton?

In the very beginning of your video you indicate to go ahead and load in a copy of Maschine 2. And i noticed in Ableton the "All Results" is highlighted, up in search i see Maschine 2 and to the right i see Mashine 2 listed in the drop down. But when i try to do that i cant find Maschine 2 within Ableton although it is uploaded already onto my laptop. Am i missing a step?

I know this is an old post but I have a problem. At the activation phase it wont let me continue. In the mixer part of Maschine, when I open up the Ins and outs and try to click on the midi in, it says none, default, focus and host. I dont know what to do!!

I believe Maschine acts only as a vst slave when used inside ableton, you can only push play on ableton and Maschine follows.
