Routing in REAPER Explained

A crash course on routing audio within (and between) tracks in REAPER. Reaper only has one type of track, and it can handle up to 64 track channels (lanes of audio) within each track. These lanes can be used for surround sound, sidechaining, parallel processing and routing multichannel audio in and out of VSTs.

I'm not sure what's up. Every video I watch, the track boxes look a little different. I try to follow step by step, but I don't have the same buttons on my tracks as the poster. Is there a plugin you're using that shows these extra features? If so, it would be nice if that was explained, because I'm stuck right from the beginning.

I'm facing a problem trying to sidechain compressing using the Grace Sampler. When I route the Kick and the 808 in order to compress the second, the signal of the kick seems to reset the signal of the 808, and this result in the 808 changing the note I want for another. It plays the route note of the sampler every time the kick appears. I've seen you doing a tutorial of Grace. So, if you have any solution to this problem, let me know! Great job, by the way!!

When you choose the destination channels in the routing around 17:05 onwards, do you choose '1/2' as a destination because the source was stereo, or is '1/2' what you'd choose even for a mono source? Perhaps this is something I don't understand about 'lanes' - what does '1/2' mean in this context?
