Thanks so much for this! Been wondering how it would incorporate with a Twin. I'm on the fence about the Six cuz I'm wondering how I can incorporate it into my workflow. My sessions can be up to 25-30 individual tracks...I can see how bouncing through the EQ and compressor on the six could add some much needed life to each individual track, but I'm confused how it would all come together at mixdown time, especially if I needed to deliver a 4 or 5 track stem mix for mastering purposes. Please keep making these bro, I want to see more of how you're incorporating it into your workflow. Peace!
@LavaLampZone5 жыл бұрын
Great question! As the SiX is only going to give you the ability to do 3 stereo stems at a time, we also have to keep in mind that ch 3-4, 5-6 do not include the eq or compressor in their paths, especially if we want to add that to stems running through those channels. Essentially, you'd probably need to create groups out of those 25-30 tracks that you could send out stereo through the SiX and back into your DAW. Or you could also send those groups though the board ch 1-6, mix from the board and create your stereo stems back into your DAW that way! This could be time consuming but on the other handing, spending the time to do it would make for some pretty kick- ass stems for mastering. After all , who's complaining about sitting at a SSL for hours at a time tweaking knobs, mixing tunes and playing back some high quality mixes! I'll be sure to pull up a larger session and make a video of some theories and ideas I have for mixing larger sessions through the SiX. Stay tuned, I'll make that my next video. Keep on jammin' brother!!!

So how does the Ssl six sound compared to the UAD Ssl channel strip??
@LavaLampZone5 жыл бұрын
Sounds much more analog and gives me much more depth and dynamic range. I have the UAD version as well. The Plugin gives you more options as far as parameters goes but it still has a really clean digital sound as opposed to the SSL SiX which gives you much more body/weight and warmth. Also I'm able to push the levels on my mixes much harder. UAD sounds great but analog will always be analog. Keep on jammin!!!
@RodneyD5 жыл бұрын
Lava Lamp Zone Recordings So I’m using the Apollo 8 blackface and the Apollo x16. Both are feeding my Dangerous dbox and the Dangerous 2 bus plus. This gives me 24 channels of analog summing. Do you see a possible sonic benefit by adding the Ssl six in my setup??
@LavaLampZone5 жыл бұрын
@@RodneyD This setup sounds incredible! Do I see a possible sonic benefit by adding the Ssl six in my setup? I've never used the DBox but I've always heard great things about it. Sonically I'm assuming the differences would mainly be the coloration of you sound as well as tone shaping. I really enjoy the eq's and dynamics sections on the SSL SiX. I feel like they give me that classic SSL analog feel I've always enjoyed and wanted to incorporate to my sound. Not necessarily loudness but wider dynamic range and sweet tones when I hit the meters really hard. With that being said it just depends on what sound u're looking for. I even push my meters so hard purposely of course sometimes that they start to distort and it just adds a different harmonic coloration to it which I love! When I play my mixes back from my small home setup on the bigs (Speakers) or in my car, it sounds like I just left and played back a mix off the big consoles in Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. I'm in it for the dynamic range and color of the sonics more than just the ability to push harder to be louder if that makes sense. Another thing I might add is that you may have too much I/O if you are currently separating all 24 channels. I'm maxed out at about 10 channels but I send my stems through in groups. I only use 6 because I'm only using the Apollo Twin but if I had the Apollo 8 or 16 I'd definitely take advantage of all 10 channels on my SSL SiX. Sorry to ramble but I hope that helps! I bought it to try it and return it if I didn't like it but it's been woking out amazing for my setup. Couldn't ask for much more other than more I/O from my interface. Keep on jammin brother!!!

I can hear me on the mic when I depress line an push 48v but I can’t seem to get a signal in my protocols daw as a output. How can I make this happen so I can record??
@LavaLampZone5 жыл бұрын
My boy Chingy! Ok so here's what we wanna do, instead of having your line channel outputs going to 1-2 on your SiX, plug those into 3-4 on the SiX. Leave channel 1- 2 dedicated to your microphones unless u need to eq your lone signal. From there, ure going to want to plug the outputs from the SSL into ch 1-2 on the Apollo Twin. In pro tools on your track you want to select input, assign to input 1 and you should be getting signal for that channel. We basically want our signal flow to start at Ch 1 on the SSL, once we get board signal, then it'll go out of the SiX into ch 1-2 on your apollo. From there make sure your input in protools is set to ch 1, arm the track and see if you get signal. I hope I explained it correctly and hope this helps. Also double check the UA Console to make sure signal is hitting there on ch 1-2. As long as signal is hitting there if should be showing up in ProTools too. Let me know bro. If not, we'll get on the horn and troubleshoot a bit brother. ✊🏿
