Such a clever idea with the double to single ring👍.. one massive problem tho .. any idea ? Also a huge difference between piston tops.. single is so much better.. it should run sweet 😊
@kanenstuff6 ай бұрын
That's a great tip do you ever put a bit of grease on those clutch gears. The single ring conversion is something I hear a lot of not sure why they want dual rings.
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
Hey brother , never any grease in the gears it will just fling off and attract dust. Those are hardened gears made to run in sand without a cover. They are called BlackBone gears and they are next to indestructible but sometimes I think over heated and when quinched in oil they warp slightly causing the issue I had with the 19/55 set
@kanenstuff6 ай бұрын
@eastsiderc for sure no grease if it's open that would be a disaster. What about if your using cheaper or stick gears and have a dust cover. Or is it still OK if it's buttery smooth.
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
@@kanenstuffyessir no grease is ever needed on those gears! Even with a cover they will still attract dust. Most of the time stock are plastic for the big gear and metal for the pinion. But they do make steel ones and there is never a need to grease them up. You will be fine brother.

im curious?? im from the 2 stroke day racing MX. back in the day.,... On your RC cars, do you worry or doesn't matter or concerned about the ring end gap. I didnt see you doing it so maybe they don't worry about that on RC rigs. im just curious. Great video. alway like watching the detail you take on the truck's... have fun.
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
Absolutely bro , first thanks for watching secondly the ring gap location cannot be adjusted its determined by the pin in the piston as you already know so the location of that is very important it must be positioned away from the exhaust port and not up in the intake. Mainly away from the exhaust port as the heat will open that gap. But once in the cylinder the ring closed around the pin and can no longer move so it will stay put. Thats for the great question!
@readeracingRC6 ай бұрын
@@eastsiderc well. that's not quite what we did. they didnt put pins in the pison to stop it from moving around. we would by over sized rings 2 or 3rd over. then line it up in the cylinder with the piston to have it perfectly straight horizontally.. ands them measure the distance between the ring ends gap. been long time but 4-5 thousands gap? and if the ring gap was to big we throw out the rigs. if to tight we would very gently file off the end and keep checking until we were in spec. if that makes sense.. but with the pin in the piston could make it more difficult. but doable. sorry i had a flashback from the 80's... lol have fun
@InTheDogHouse3DPrinting6 ай бұрын
As he stated, there is a pin on the piston to locate the ring so it doesn't sit over a port in the head. The ring gap can be checked, but I have never checked any of the motors I have built to see what the gap actually is. I will check mine the next time I tear it down to do maintenance on it to see what it is. Over the years that I built motors I always checked the ring gap to make sure they were all the same.

i had a question, your tune video you mention your idle needle should be all the way out and just till it starts moving the throttle butterfly. but im at stock settings on my 990 and cant get it to idle without the needle nearly all the way in. its a brand new 290rc and a 990carb (brand new)
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
Adjust your low brother and you can crank the idle in from where I say to set no more than a turn. From the sound of it your low needle needs more fuel. Im going to do a tuning vid with the car soon and make it make all the sounds of rich and to lean. I really want to help you fellas stay in the gas hobby.
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
Base setting are for starting the engine once running you can set a base tune then run the engine and get it fully warmed up before making a final tune. Once optimally tuned you can pretty much leave it there and it will only call for a slight adjustment one way or the other depending on drastic ambient temp and humidity changes. I hope you get it. Please leave me a new comment on the latest videos I post if you need more help bro. Thats what Im here for.

How much of an actual difference in performance would this do? I think it would be negligible myself. I don't see how a second ring would make that much difference.
@eastsiderc6 ай бұрын
@@InTheDogHouse3DPrinting we had a dual ring 50 that TMR built it ran terribly hot we removed the second ring and it made much more power and rpms and ran way cooler. Also the 45 dual ring same thing I had one it was a turd I removed the dual ring piston it ran cooler and and made way more power its in my Maxt now. The dual ring for our rc application with the rpms we put these through created extra friction…think about it a ring drags in the cylinder wall so two rings dragging is twice the friction. Its okay for a chain saw but not our engines or my KTM 300 cc 2 stroke . Only one ring my giant bore 2 stroke!
