As a little boy walking to school in the late 80's a guy who lived nearby had one of these in his drive, I couldn't help but look at it every time I passed, because even then cars were starting to become soulless little square boxes and here was this thing with that huge Greek Temple of a grill, he also owned a silver BSA Goldstar cafe racer type bike which was also equally gorgeous that he kept next to it on the drive, less seen as it lived mostly in the garage, he owned a very nice White Lotus Europa, all in mint condition (Yes, this guy had a dream 3 vehicle collection). Once on my way to School, I heard this very loud rumble walking down the street, at first I thought it was the BSA (As I believe the owners main mode of transport), but as I got closer it was apparent that it was no bike making the V8 rumble. He had the p5 (B)east out on the road so I could see all of it, it was amassing quite a crowd too. I was 10 minutes late for school and endured a half hour detention, all worth it. To date, I still rate it as among one of the coolest cars I have ever seen.

That must be one of the most beautiful car-snouts ever made , just look at it ! So unbelievebly better done than any modern Audi with their big mouths and dirty looking eyes . This majestic snout oozes stile and authority , not AGRESSION . Truely one of the best looking luxurysaloons ever made , inside and out . The only possible contender would be a Mercedes SE or a Rolls Royce silver Cloud , both from the 60s .

👍🏻 How can I not agree with you? You write rightly " not aggressive but autoritary ". I add "elegant, without any vulgar detail". I would like a Coupè for motorway travel, but in Italy too few have arrived with left-hand drive, almost impossible to find

They called them the "Poor man's Rolls Royce" and that's the best description of these incredible beautiful and classy Rovers!

Actually I prefer "gentleman's club on wheels". It never was a poor man's car in the first place and it implies a Rolls-Royce would be a step up. I would disagree on that one.

The worst description you could give to a classic car , I hope you dont say this to owners of such cars , it makes out that the car and the person driving is just a wanabee .

They were very expensive to build - only reason they lasted as long as they did was due to the success of Land Rover which provided the cash necessary. Glad they did though as I have one of the last P5 MKIII’s 😎

I can't describe the feeling that envelopes me every time I see one of these sumptuous cars. It's that fondness you feel from a sweet memory.Or maybe it was the hot chocolate I was drinking when I saw this clip ! THAT'S IT........that feeling that these cars still exist & oh god I want one......

I don't know about that. The P6 was an excellent car in its own right, the next most advanced thing after a Citroen DS. The SD1 went in a completely different direction and while it had it's troubles, it was an incredible bit of styling and full of its own, muscular character. No wonder the police loved them so much. The 800 was pretty muted but tried to bring back some of the solidity of the older cars with some Honda help, and the 75 then tried to mimic the P5 in a late 90s, retro way. I like all of them, even if they're all so very different. Rover weren't like the Germans, every new car was a complete philosophy change. Sure if I could have any of them I'd have a P5, but i'd hapilly try any of them.

@@thegearknob7161 The SDI "had its troubles" is only part of it. It completely ruined Rover's reputation here. Later models were basically rebadged Hondas, but so bad was the reputation after the SDI that the Honda version outsold the Rovers by a large margin. The make had disappeared from the market by the early '90s, save for the RangeRover.
