A little while back I hot offered this V8 SD1. I didn't really want it, but now it's on my truck, put there with a forklift, now I have to get it off...

James “Nitrosilvia” would make very good use of this car, I think. Maybe you should give him a shout, he loves these things and nothing seems to phase him.

I worked with a guy who was a former mechanic with the then Austin Rover dealers on Jersey in the Channel Islands. He told me that they used to spend roughly 2 days on every new SD1 PDI in an effort to get the car to work.and hopefully stay together...

The Rover SD1 was a groundbreaking hatchback shape when initially launched as the 3500 in 1976 replacing the more staid P6. The 2300 and 2600 came the following year. Even today with only about 320 left it does not look too old fashioned.

Agreed.

Not seen one of these since me mate had one in 1993, was blue with a tan interior, we smoked a lot of weed in that thing lol, any ways, been 29 years since I've seen one until yesterday pre-evening when a white one flew past us on the Buckman Brow A595 in Cumbria, what a sight and what a sound, poetry in motion

I had an a 2600S in the same colour with the Green interior, a manual transmission version. The paint was called Opaline. It was a rare colour, especially with the Green interior. It was an X reg. That is only the second SD1 I've seen with Opaline and the Green interior. I do prefer the V8 with a manual box, I owned both series one and two manual V8s. I wish I still had them.

I never knew how much I wanted a green on green SD1 with a bodykit until I saw this one. I don't want this one, I've inflicted quite enough welding on myself to be getting on with for a while yet. I hope someone rescues it though, what a fabulous thing it could be.

Makes my old Hillman Avenger look solid. But there's something so nice about the shape of an SD1. What's sad of course is back in the day, much better examples would have been sent to the crusher.

That’s a superb purchase. Been off the road since June ‘89, incredibly. I’d love to know the story as to why it was parked up. Trivia: if you’d turned left at the traffic lights at 7:14, my nan and uncle used to live down there before it was all knocked down and rebuilt.

Top marks for improvisation, that Rover would make a lovely car but the bodywork is a long long way gone... I once had a colleague who ran one in the late 80s and described the bodywork like chain-link fencing....

I just wish we had rusty cars like that over here(*Sarc*/Lol). There's one over here a 1981 'N.A.D.A'-Spec(American)Car which has been for sale for months. It's tucked under it's own Awning AND it's own Car Cover. Sole new in New Jersey in '81 and than driven to Arizona in '84. Last driven in 1988 with only 65-Thousand Miles from new. I think he wants $75.00 for it now(!!).

It’s not a massive restoration job that. Just a bit of T-Cut and furdling. Let me know when it’s fully roadworthy and concourse d’Elegance ready and I’ll swap it for Sir Arnold Robinson. AND buy you battered sausage and chips, complete with curry sauce on the day of the swap over. I know, I’m a fool to myself….
