For the second example, I believe the answer would be 1 4 0 5 instead of 1 4 0 6 because you're scaling R2 by 3 so 8 + (-3)=5

Not showing your work is an absolute terrible tip. Almost garunteed to mess up, especially if you’re doing multiple steps at once

sometimes its necessary, my mid term is only 75 minutes, so taking 5-10 mins on just writing rref or ref would be a killer. just keep practicing until you can do it with your eyes closed and then you would guarantee no mess up.

I like to have the original and go thru each operation and just erase along the way. It is very mistake prone to rewrite the whole matrix if you’re only changing one part at that moment
