@PureZOOKS2 жыл бұрын
@@iang8032 a few of these are based on the very limited amount of German an average brit knows, so I can make a few changes here. "pother in Hamburg" is just "Berlin Hamburg" "shoemaker" is Schumacher, a very famous racing driver. Rowan is very much name dropping here, lol. "Apfelstrudel" just Apple Strudel. " Hoffmeister and Thorsten Pilz (?!)" is hoffmeister and holsten pils, two German beers, hence why brits would know it. "milk in the fridge" close, it's more "Milk in the Porshe", at this point he really is stringing together whatever school level German he has. As the other guy said "Vorsprung durch Technik" is the Audi slogan. "Donner und Blitzen" he's literally naming reindeer, lol. I know that's what their names mean, but he is only saying them because it's German. And at the very end, "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" is the name of an older British comedy show, hence why it's a phrase a lot of Brits know.

The point of the joke is really that this is the level of German that most Brits are exposed to: car advert mottoes, cities, beer names, basic words, useful holiday phrases, names of things which use the German word in English (dogs and so on) ...so Brits can understand it all too :) That's why they're laughing, they recognise the clutching at random German words he's been exposed to. Bit like if we sang in Italian it would be all "spaghetti bolognese, graffiti, por favor, impresario, operetta, terra cotta, al fresco..." etc. :)

Your miracles will connect again Whatever fashion had strictly divided All men will become brothers Wherever your tender wing remains ###### Berlin Hamburg Schumacher Baden-Baden lederhosen fast fast fast Yes Yes No No apple strudel Hofmeister and Holsten Pils Attention loving woman in milk Porsche oom-pah Vorsprung durch Technik Donner and Blitzen British architect tommorrow belongs to me pig, dog, fool a beer please Jurgen Klinsmann is not broke, Boris Becker always boom boom I'm a Berlin kindergarten pick, glühwein where his skipass edelweiss sings captain von Trapp thank-you Auf Wiedersehen Pet
@Celrador9 жыл бұрын
Coro Gilang The originial is "Oh friends, not these NOTES!" (="Oh Freunde, nicht diese TÖNE") - Rowan Atkinson is singing "Oh friends, not this KEY!" (="Oh Freunde, nicht diese TONART"), which is a joke implying that his orchestra is playing the piece wrong. "Attention loving woman in milk Porsche oom-pah" He is actually singing "Achtung Liebfrauenmilch im Porsche" = "Attention Liebfrauenmilch in the Porsche" (Liebfrauenmilch is the name of a German quality wine and "im" = "in dem" = "in the") "pig, dog, fool" He is actually singing "Schwein(e)hund, Dummkopf" (he misspronounced the Schweinehund and left out the 2nd e) = "pigdog, fool" (Schweinehund/Sauhund = the dog used to hunt pigs a whole while back which became an insult/the name for your inner lazy asshole) "Jurgen Klinsmann is not broke" He is actually singing "Jürgen Klinsmann ist kaputt" = "Jürgen Klinsmann is broken" (kaputt = broken in the sense of a broken piece of something - i.e. the broken toy) "Boris Becker always boom boom" Not sure, but it rather sounds like "Boris Becker Himmel boom boom" = "Boris Becker heaven boom boom" (so it's heaven[=himmel] instead of always[=immer]) Just to state the obvious: His German in this sketch is far from perfect and contains a lot of mistakes concerning grammar, pronounciation and especially context. (Even though he usually speaks rather decent German, atleast the few words he knows and when he is trying to, this is just overplayed to make it more funny.)

Okay, but to sing "Oh Freunde nicht diese Tonart" instead of "Oh Freunde nicht diese Töne" in the beginning is such a tiny tongue -in-cheek moment that most non-German speakers probably miss? I love it! (The original means: "Oh friends, not such tones/sounds" (referring to the general mood someone's speaking reflects, whether they sound annoyed or happy or angry and the original text asks people not to sound like that but to have a joyful Ton/air)(of course it's a musical pun as well). But instead he says "Tonart", which means simply: "Don't (play) in this key", which is a really sophisticated joke to make in German.)
@davidw15184 жыл бұрын
That's really interesting and insightful, especially the musical pun. Thank you, from somebody who has sung (in the chorus) Beethoven's 9th, but who understands practically no German.
@Mulhollandize4 жыл бұрын
He doesn't sing "Tonart", he sings "Tone" instead of "Töne". Probably just because he can't pronounce the "ö" (Umlaut). It's the same as he does with "Bruder" instead of "Brüder" later in the text.
@kristianefalk4 жыл бұрын
Er singt "Töne", nicht "Tonart". Er hat nur Probleme mit der Aussprache. Das "-rt" fehlt am Schluss des Wortes.

I don´t understand why the audience is laughing during the correct 1st verse of the song. He sings the correct words: Freude, schöner Götterfunken Tochter aus Elysium Wir betreten Feuertrunken Himmlische, dein Heiligtum! Deine Zauber binden wieder was die Mode streng geteilt. Alle Menschen werden Brüder wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt. Everything correct.
