Hey Rowdy! This is probably really late since this video was posted 3 months ago, but better late than never! I’ve also developed chronic pain & fatigue in these last couple years, and I’m only in my late 20’s. I’m still a lucky one, I was afforded an education, so I knew what to look up, what available accessibility I could afford & incorporate in my every day life to make certain tasks easier, and most importantly the immense wisdom and ingenious tips/tricks generously shared by other disabled and/or chronically ill people. Still with all that, I’ve been losing my stamina and experiencing so much pain daily to the point I can barely fulfil basic functions. I’ve realised that I’m at a point where I have to accept that my body just can’t do the things I used to be able to do with ease or little consequences to deal with anymore. I’m also someone who can get so fixated on what I’m doing that I won’t move for hours until I’m utterly exhausted and everything everywhere hurts like hell. So I just have pace myself, taking 20 minutes break (or more) after 45 minutes of working. I know that sounds like not enough work and too much break, but that’s what works for me now. I hate to pull myself from doing something, it’s frustrating and I mutter under my breath begrudgingly at my body for clocking out, but it works. I can work longer for more consecutive days if I observe that work/break pacing, while still able to sleep, eat well and do other bodily maintenance stuffs. All that ramble is to say, my suggestion is to pace yourself and respect the pace your body is most comfortable & can sustainably function at, even when it’s frustratingly lax & slow compare to what you used to be able to do. I still struggle to accept that myself, but I celebrate every little win, when I choose more wisely and more appropriately for what my body is capable of now. I also have a standing desk, I love it! That pacing still applies though, I don’t stand all the time, I alternate, and I try to do that before I start to feel pain coz then it’s gone too far. You may find that you need to elevate your laptop/monitor, keyboard & mouse (if you’re working on a computer like I do) so you don’t overexert your neck, shoulders, elbows & wrists. I just stack some books under my monitor and use a little pocket dictionary to support the wrist I use the mouse with. External keyboard helps too, if you use a laptop and having to angle your arms up to type is awkward. I can only hope tou or a passerby get some useful tips out of this rambling! All the best.

Hi Rowdy, I'm by no means a specialist on arthritis, but according to Google the inflammation that causes arthritis and the pain can be greatly reduced with a diet that is... well... anti-inflammatory. :) There are foods that boost inflammation, like coffee, black tea, eggs, meat, processed carbohydrates, fried food, alcohol, and butter. Among the foods that inhibit inflammation are green tea, whole grains, beans, broccoli, citrus fruits, fish, nuts and ginger. Maybe you could try a change of diet and see if it works out for you. At least this option is cheap and no joints have to be replaced... Keep up your great videos. Cheers from Germany!

There might be the possiblity of regenerating cartilage, as that is done with knees. From running with bad form, I blew off 1/2 inch of cartilage from both knees. Five years later, most of the rest had worn away, and I was fortunate to have a great surgeon, who created fibrous cartilage. He drilled into the femur to take stem cells, and injected those into the patella. I had to not run for 3 months, but was great. I have done two marathons since, and have another next month. Be careful of just having injections, which don't seem to be as effective, as taking your own stem cells, and having them injected to rebuild the cartilage. Lots of good wishes for you.
@RowdyBurton5 жыл бұрын
Oh, that is good to know because I am considering stem cell therapy as well.
@randylazer28945 жыл бұрын
Hey Rowdy....the most important thing about stem cells that I have learned (and I am not an expert, but do have a book coming out on reversing heart disease, and have seen quite a few studies), is that your own stem cells will work the best. It might take three months to have them develop fibrous cartilage, but, that worked for me. As you know there are many places that claim good results, but that isn't necessarily the case. They offer injections, and some people have shared that they have worked, and others, that there was no benefit, and these are from my friends. So, maybe check out how your stem cells might be injected to regenerate cartilage. Lots of good wishes for you.

hey rowdy , i am new to your channel . my name is robert and i was just listening to your thoughts on how to extend your ability to keep walking without added pain . i have seen adds for a device for people with bad knees use. i cant remember the name of it but i can tell you what it looks like and what it does . there are two pieces of plastic that are attached by a set of loaded springs that fit right behind the knee . the two pieces of plastic are rounded to fit comfortably above and below the knee . they are fitted with stretchable velcro straps for a tight fit . these things are sping loaded so when the person bends down the springs help them to stand back up with a lot less stress to their knees . i dont know if something like that could help you , but you could relay this info to your doctors and maybe they could make something like it for you arms . i hope this helps in some way ! God bless you ! keep up the videos , i know you inspire a lot of people. if i come across that video again i will get the name of it and send it to you !

Unfortunately, my main issue isn't from bending but just from walking straight- just the weight of my body on my arms. Also, I've done some damage just by leaning on my elbows while resting. Those devises you describe sound super cool, but I'm not sure if they would be able to help me.
@John-hg5pw5 жыл бұрын
Watching you you appear unbreakable. I was shot and became a quadriplegic. I appear strong but I am still dying from my wounds. The would was not meant for disabilities. It was meant to be. My greatest hope is Heaven but healing before (too). I fear if I was healed I'd be living on the edge. However, You may not see or feel but you are three times stronger. Your heart glows, but there are times of gloom. I am not sure if I over share this story, but God talks from Heaven. Christ Jesus asked what I had need of, but health did not beg the attention. It was knowing He is and was. His voice is comfort and joy, and the Father God sounds like Him. I am happy to know the Father speaks too but it is my side which is sinful I know He knows that gave me a sense of fear. They are true. Ever find a day of fatigue and tried, weep upwards. I know everyone's story is different, because my friends were behind the trigger. Know God loves you. Many want your story but not your trials, but in these type of lives you are able to help men flourish. God shines in you. Keep looking up. He is returning. May God be glorified!

Maybe you could look into some sort of arm supports that could redirect the weight and pressure from your elbows when you walk ,and spread it out a little to other parts of your arms, kinda like the way a snow shoe spreads the weight across a wider area ,so you don't sink in the snow. If you see what i mean.

About 25 years ago I began to develop arthritis. I saw that people with arthritis go to doctors and get treated, but the outcome is they get worse anyway. Wrong outcome. So I figured I'd just put up with it until I really had to do something about it. .......When it finally got there, I researched the various therapeutics out there and ranked them by possible effectiveness, and by cost. Then I'd start taking stuff for a test drive. If after a few weeks one pill isn't doing anything obviously beneficial, I'd switch to the next item on the list. Tops on the list was Perna canaliculus extract. (Often called something like "New Zealand Mussel Extract".) So I went with that. Within several weeks I was pretty much back to normal, without any side effects. When the bottle ran out, I wondered if symptoms would immediately return. They didn't. I was fine for another year or so. Then had to do a repeat. So evidently the stuff does more that just relieve symptoms, it promotes healing processes. Nowadays I'm taking a slew of other supplements for unrelated medical conditions and those are keeping the arthritis at bay. I would suppose you've looked into things like mineral supplements & Vitamin D & K for strengthening bones, etc. Probably worthwhile but I claim no special knowledge on that. . But the Perna extract, that stuff worked wonders on me and anyone with arthritis I'd say take it for a test drive and see if it works for you. Another item worth looking into is Cissus quadrangularis extract. It's an anabolic ketosterone that's said to be particularly good at repairing musculoskeletal damage.
@RowdyBurton5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'll keep those in mind- I really haven't even begin to investigate all the options.

@@RowdyBurton Nowadays there's quite a few NZ Mussel Extract products out there. The places I usually begin for a quick information scan on supplements are Wikipedia and www.examine.com . Life Extension Foundation (lef.org) has gobs of information on a lot of different stuff.

I know I already made this comment on your video about how you do chores, but I'm going to say this here too. I wonder if it would help your elbows to have wheels on things that you need to push around. Do you know about scooter boards? They're square shaped wood or plastic boards with wheels on the bottom. They're commonly used for kids in schools for gym class or physical therapy. They're sort of similar to a skateboard but unlike a skateboard, they can turn in a circular motion and may be easier to use in small spaces. I wonder if it might be helpful if you placed certain items like shopping bags on top of one, so that you could roll it instead of having to push and carry it, and that might cause less strain on your elbows. Or possibly you could use it instead of the skateboard, every once in a while because it might be better than a skateboard in certain situations, since the wheels rotate and it may be easier to balance? Or maybe you could get some kind of custom contraption that is similar to a baby walker. They make standing wheelchairs that allow you to stand and reach things. They're not designed for people with no legs, but I'm sure you could figure out a way to make it work for you. Here's a video about the standing wheelchairs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHaQnWqrfZ5koK8 Here's an Amazon listing for a set of the scooter boards I'm talking about. www.amazon.com/Non-Marring-Performance-Bearings-Education-Equipment/dp/B000ANKDT0/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?keywords=scooter+boards&qid=1572753455&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRU9NWkdGVTU1QTFaJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDA2ODA3MkhaT043UTkzRVg5UyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTM0MjYxMVIxWkxWUVowUUEyWCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=@t

I imagine your workstation being retrofitted to have a sort of baby bouncer hung from the ceiling or on a frame, with adjustable bungees (add or remove carribeaners to increase or decrease off load). I know your doctors have thought about it but I wonder if there's some sort of bracing you could fashion to alleviate some load on your elbows when moving around as you normally do (point A to B, not necessarily for sport), something like an forearm brace that forms along and up to your arm pit that can help with your elbows loads. I find this an really interesting design problem and I wish I could make this happen

Not really about elbows, but your hands. Did you try kevlar enforced gloves? I saw someone else suggested elbow supports/sleeves, I searched for it on ebay, and found a lot of different options, with and without padding. Some like a sleeve, some with velcro straps etc. I hope you find some that works for you, which actually will give support. What about your wrists, by the way, do they also develop arthitis or similar, thus needing some support?
@RowdyBurton5 жыл бұрын
I will definitely check out kevlar gloves, they look promising, as well as the elbow supports. As for my wrists, they give me only minimal trouble. They probably do have arthritis as well, but compared to my elbows, it's not bad.

I wonder if a boosted board can have wheel locks, so you could 'stand' on the board giving your elbows a break but easily unlock the wheels to become mobile? Even a cushion-y support to allow you to change your pressure points (I don't know if having type I, II, III or IV changes the dynamics)

I’m sure there’s something that can be made that essentially somewhat negates the weight that your body has on your elbows, maybe some sort of mechanical contraption that can be put around your arms so instead of energy and force being exerted onto your joints instead go into some structural rods around your arm instead, you just gotta get some guy who’s good at math to design it!! It’s 2020 I’m sure it is possible. Although it does sound expensive....
@kevincorrigan17545 жыл бұрын

Im sure they (meaning specialist) and you have been around the globe and back in your brains thinking of alternatives, but i had a thought when you were taking about this, picture sort of like a modified babies Walker u know like they set sort of suspended in the air allowing for your lower limbs to dangle, but make it motorized so in a nut shell you wouldnt have to balance on your lower half no stress on your elbows or hands and they are small enough y to maneuver through about anywhere. Then a latching door on front so when you need to transfer to your regular chair or bed. Does this make sense or had this already been thought of. Just thinking out loud i can see it in my head.

Hi Rowdy 😁 hey does it make any difference if you use elbow/forearm protectors? Like some sort of super durable and (comfortably) padded coverings? Something that isnt restricting, but still takes some of the wear and tear off your elbows and arms? I'm sorry if I sound naive, I'm just trying to think of something, some kind of way around this

That’s really not a bad idea. I used to have elbow pad sleeves I wore a lot but they would slide off super easy. And I was actually getting elbow pads recently to ride my Onewheel around but couldn’t find any that fit at any store and was too scared to shop online, ended up wearing knee pads which I think worked out ok

I have what they call “tennis elbow” which is called tendinitis. It’s when I work and use my elbows a lot by lifting my elbows over my head and bend them back. After a while my joints of my elbows will start to rub against each other. So I end up getting Cortizone shot and it relieved the pain for a long time. So I’m due to get another shot.
