Roxette Joyride Q&A with Per Gessle

JOYRIDE (30th Anniversary)
Thirty years ago, the Swedish pop sensation Roxette got their fourth US #1 single with ”Joyride” - the title track to their third album. With MTV being an ever increasing power in the early 90’s pop business, a spectacular - and costly - music video was a necessary element in the bag of tricks that could send a single all the way to the top.
And ”Joyride” truly was no exception. It became a strikingly playful video, with Marie and Per sometimes sitting on a Ferrari while a hidden driver operated the accelerator and break-pedals.
A joyride in 4K
But thirty years of heavy rotation had made its mark on the original video (which probably had been copied and then copied again, before disappearing out of sight), so a restoration was definitely due. As a part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations, the “Joyride” video has resurrected in a new and improved version with sparkling colours and amazing clarity in 4K resolution.

Hi, Per.. I lost my husband for covid19 8 months ago. I was very devastated. And lonely because my 26 years old son has his own life, busy. My life turned dark.. I stoped doing anything. But one day, when I was in my way back home from my weekly visit to my husband’s cemetery, I heard a local radio playing Crash Boom Bang. Suddenly , I knew how to get my life back. I started listening Roxette again; all those beautifull songs reminded me the happines of old times when I was 20s and began to start life then. I started to drive again last month, with my 11 yo daughter sitting beside me listening The Joyride Album. I sang Joyride outloud; I really love the happy cheeky lyric. My daughter instantly felt in love with Roxette. Thank you, for the great song, Per. The new video is awesome 😍👍👍 Much love from Jakarta Indonesia.

I absolutely love Physical Fascination! It always was a very special song for me. Sometimes I took an album just to listen to this song. This song is in my personal Roxette greatest hits compilation on Spotify. One of the things I always loved about Roxette is that there are so many different styles, flavors, colors - from song to song, from album to album. I own every Roxette album. When Marie passed, it ripped my heart and I cried for days. Because she was with me through my teens and twenties. Roxette was the coming of age soundtrack for me. And then the songs I got back to, to feel happy. Even now. Things will never be the same... But I cherish the memories. Both of you are immortalized through your music. Love you!

I attended the Rochford Winery tour in 2015 in Australia I want to say thank you. I know that I'm not the only person to have said this.
