One of my greatest pleasures. Standing in front of Roy playin in a tiny bar in capitola ca.
@thecin8443Ай бұрын
When I was 16, my boyfriend (a Roy fan) took me to see Roy as my first concert. Small club -- the Starwood in L.A., summer of 1978. We stood right up front, pressed against the stage. At one point, Roy lit up a cigarette at the beginning of a song and slid it between the strings and the frets of his guitar. He took a drag right before his solo, then handed the cig to the guy standing next to us, who was thrilled to death. His bass player was great, too. The way he moved as he played, we found ourselves watching him much of the time. I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been Gus Thornton. Can anyone out there confirm that? (Thornton was the bass player behind Stevie Ray Vaughan and Albert King during their "In Session" show, and the moment I saw that, I was sure he was the same guy.) What a great night that was.
