Roy is the man! I think this is the 3rd of his songs on this channel. One was R&B, one was Blues, and this was a cover of a C&W song which was a hit for Patsy Cline, among others. Definitely a versatile lad. I like how he could make his guitar sound like a voice singing from the heart, much like Patsy Cline's voice. This is one of his masterpieces. I'm like that lady at the end every time I hear this. 😧 I think this was a runner up in the poll. So glad you guys were able to review it. Those SAD kids are grinders! I appreciate y'all.

Masterful, mainly hugely understated, lyrical, scintillating and gorgeous. Roy and Rory Gallagher were the two largely under-appreciated guitar gurus I used to see religiously in the early-mid 70s. Jeff Beck was relatively more widely recognized. This track, the studio version, was probably the 2nd of his I ever heard on all-night radio, after 'The Messiah Will Come Again', another shattering tour-de-force. Rest In Peace, Roy, Rory and Jeff. ❤🎶🙏✨️🕊

Great reaction. This was the song, released as a single over here in 1972, that got me into Roy. As you say, under-rated, perhaps the most under-rated ever. One of the things I personally like is how he influenced so many. Even guitarists that were already classed as greats. The way he plays and works the volume and tone knobs! Something the likes of Jeff Beck and Jan Akkerman to name but 2, adopted and made their "signature" No pedals or gizmo's, just Roy and his guitar making stellar music. R.I.P. you legend!!!!

Greetings Paul! I also like the way he gets various effects without pedals. Those volume swells and pinch harmonics are trademark Roy. Man, this channel has been on a roll with guitarists recently - Zappa, Hendrix, Belew, SRV, and now the great Roy Buchanan. I'm lovin' it!

Few people could wring as many different sounds out of a Telecaster as Roy. Minimal effects, he did it all just using the controls on the guitar and his magic fingers.

I had read that he called one of his guitars "Nancy". Nancy, as I understand it, was a 1953 Fender Telecaster. If I did not see this live one would possibly think he used several guitars in the studio. I can hear almost a slide guitar part in this song. He is using a pick so I have no idea how he achieves that sound. He is, in my opinion, one of the greatest guitarists... period. Thanks for reacting to him. Take care.

On the other hand, his version of "Hey Joe" from the same concert is more "show-boaty". The way he used his finger on the volume knob is the reason that Jeff Beck dedicated " 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers" to him.

Jeff was the only guitarist I've seen copy Roy's Volume and Tone control manipulation techniques. Jeff also mastered them on his Strat . It's gotta be difficult ..so few have tried to incorporate it into their playing

@@peterbartolomeo5542 For someone else that got the technique from Buchanan, see former John Mayall guitarist Walter Trout at the end of the song " Reason I'm Gone" (from the DVD Relentless) on KZbin, where he quotes the Beethoven song "Fur Elise" using the volume knob. You can also Google "Walter Trout volume knob" to see him demonstrating how he does it.

They say he tried to hang himself twice ...once after the cops veat him up and arrested him for basically walking on a country road alone minding his own business. His wife called to complain Roy is drinking again . Dumb move. But Roy makes that Telecaster SCREAM like no one else

Roy and Danny were never going to be household names like Clapton Beck or all the other guitar gods. They did not fit the profile they didn,t look or dress the part Roy looked like your Geography teacher and Danny looked like he,d come to fix your roof. They might be unknown to the masses but the lesser guitar gods of today are very aware

The sound is all in his fingers and brain. I'm betting Roy could pick up any guitar and come close to his signature sound. Not many could get that sound out of a telecaster.... He was special. As for the girl.. I grew up and saw him a few time in the 70's.. even met him. That girl probably looked that way because of decent drugs and penetrating music.

Interesting observation about how this kind of playing won’t be seen again. Roy, and all the rest of his generation, came from a time when exposure to music was limited to what you could find on the radio, (in rural locations, not much), and what you could here live. So if you heard music in your head, you had to find your own way to express it, with the available instruments and players. Also no sampled sounds, you had to figure out how to play what you wanted to, how to get the sounds you were searching for. I think this lead to the many distinctive guitarists of the time. Don’t know if I explained that well, but maybe having total access, today, to every song, in every style, ever recorded, is as much a drawback as it is an asset. 🤷‍♂️
