Roy Clark was so insanely good, that he was performing a comedy routine at the same time! Lol...

You should really check him out on the banjo, fiddle and mandolin. He's a beast on anything with strings.

Yeah dude Roy Clark was the man. Its a shame a lot of the old country players never got the recognition they deserved.

Gonna have to research why
@TheOneAndOnlyFloridaMan
@TheOneAndOnlyFloridaMan 2 жыл бұрын
@@Devon_Rismay Well to correct myself, I do believe they were appreciated during their time it's just that as rock started to get more popular in the 60s and 70s and people were gaining recognition for shredding in rock songs, the focus of the guitar community shifted from country to rock and its stayed there ever since. Hence why everyone knows Hendrix was a virtuoso but hardly anyone remembers Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, or Les Paul though they were all extremely talented guitarists.
@Devon_Rismay

@@TheOneAndOnlyFloridaMan very well said, although hendrix WAS a vittuoso for all the things he did, but I agree, there were others before that were extremely talented

@@Devon_Rismay Thing is, Roy Clark could probably do everything that Hendrix did, but I doubt that Hendrix could play a fraction of what Roy did. Roy could play any style flawlessly, Hendrix couldn't. Add in the fact that Roy could play any stringed instrument like a virtuoso, and the comparison becomes laughable.
@DerEchteBold
@DerEchteBold Жыл бұрын
@@stevenstoll2016 Well, of course there is no comparison, Roy Clark was a masterful performer with a delightfully quirky humor on top of it (first time I saw him was actually on the Muppet Show!) and Hendrix kinda revolutionized the music scene, paving the way for Rock into the seventies, some very different things.

That live performance on the odd couple was unedited in front of a live audience. Only one take. Roy clark was good, great. Country music probably had the best guitar players of any genre. They all could play great.

Guys like buddy guy, albert collins, the guitarists for steely dan. Steely Dan was probably the biggest album sellers of the 1970's but their production skills are the best. Even in the 70's they were so clean and sounded so good.

Has anyone suggested the guitar battle at the end of the movie Crossroads (1986)? It's got Steve Vai & Ralph Macchio (yes from Karate Kid) in a guitar battle for an old man's life. Now of course Mr. Macchio isn't actually playing the guitar, that's being done by Ry Cooder, but Ralph does a good job of pretending he does. Steve Vai however, IS playing his guitar and the showdown is probably the only good part of that movie, and well worth a watch.

Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple guitarist, maybe the most famous riff of all time from Smoke on the Water) once said something along the lines "if I ever got too cocky/big head I would turn on Hee-Haw and be humbled" Roy Clark was on the country comedy show Hee-Haw.

I have one for you. Check out John Petrucci doing an instrumental version of Prince’s “Purple Rain”. If you’re not familiar with him he’s the guitarist for the progressive metal group Dream Theater. I’ve seen him live and he’s amazing. He does a beautiful job on Prince’s song.

Another multi instrument musician that I think you would enjoy is Gatemouth Brown. One of my favorite performances of his is this funky "Okie Dokie Stomp" from the "Lighting In A Bottle" concert. Is it country, blues, jazz? IMO, all that and more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGO7o6unqZiirKc

You like brad paisley well you'll love Tommy Emmanuel. He was brad paisley' mentor sort of speak. Tommy Emmanuel. Glen campbell, jerry reed(the guitar man), chet atkins, ricky skaggs, the list goes on. Slash from guns n roses said if all the guitarists in nashville left he'd be out of a job. Steve morse won guitar player of the year 5 years in a row. His band was called the Dixie Dregs.
