The thing with Roy was that he was simply masterful with stringed instruments but he loved throwing in comedy bits and being silly. He came up in a time where being able to not just play but to truly keep the crowd entertained would keep you employed and he was so much fun to watch!

Right, he is a master and so great to see how well he can connect with audience even if is trough a video.

You can't get much more country than Roy Clark but he also could do other genres of songs. You should listen to him play Malaguena. Both Malaguena and 12th Street Rag were live so there were no multiple takes or "tweaking" on a soundboard back in the studio or autotune. His sound is due to some innate talent and years and years and years of practice. If you want to hear his singing voice, listen to "Yesterday When I Was Young" and if you want another example of his comedic talent listen to "Thank God and Greyhound". Besides his talent as an entertainer, he also was widely acknowledged as being a good and gentle and kind man, which made him beloved in the country music world and he is greatly missed. I enjoyed this reaction and I would love to see you react to more songs by Roy Clark.

As mentioned listen to his cover of Maleguena. The one he did on the Odd Couple television show. There are other videos of him doing it, but this one you can watch his fingers dance.

No one played as fast as Roy Clark back in the day. The best technical guitarists back then were in Country music. You have to remember the technology was in its infancy, which makes this era of music most impressive.

I'm an old man and that song makes me freaking cry. A younger person doesn't fully grasp the lyrics of that song until they've traveled many miles and experienced many things.

Americans have to categorize everything. So Roy was called a country musician, but he played all sorts of styles. He was one of the greatest guitarists ever. In fact he was one of the greatest in almost every string instrument there is.
