Love Roy Clark's talent & his humor. He made it look so easy but what he did was actually very difficult. He was able to play his instruments with a really fast tempo. Roy was definitely one of the best guitarists.

Rag music is a style that I normally think of as a subset of jazz. Although I'm sure the experts would disagree with me. Mostly I think of it being played on pianos. It amazes me when I see it moved over to the guitar. Roy Clark was a great entertainer, singer, and a master musician. He played banjo, guitar, and fiddle/violin at the highest levels. As a kid, I was more impressed with Chet Atkins, but as I grow older and look back, my respect for Roy Clark only grows. Thanks for this reaction. Other great songs by him: "Thank God and Greyhound" (singing) "Orange Blossom Special" (guitar there is a duet of him and Johnny Cash doing this one) "Duelin' Banjos" (for of course the banjo, probably the version with him and Buck Trent is the best one for banjo. Sometimes he played it on the guitar.)

Since Hee Haw started in 69, what you saw was well before Hee Haw. Roy was on Jimmy Dean's Town and Country show and I believe that is a snippet from that show.

Roy could play anything with strings! He was one of the very best...and he was a GREAT comedian. There are many many videos of Roy's performances before he became an anchor star of the wildly popular TV show "Hee Haw" (which ran for 25 seasons!) One of his true masterpieces was the flamenco style "Malagueña." There are other recordings, but I think you'll be as impressed as was "The Odd Couple" cast with this guest performance ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6nWpKGmbLdoZ6M ) on that '70s TV series. Then, there's Roy on the banjo! From an episode of Hee Haw, this banjo duel ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/amixgYKhg9Z0hLM ) between Roy and Buck Trent is hard to beat!!

Great on the banjo and fiddle, too. Fast and precise, all through his lengthy career. Agree with others who have suggested “Malagueña”-ought to listen to that one when you can.

Roy Clarke is Eddie Van Halen’s and Jimmie Hendrix’s favorite guitarist. He playsHarp, Fiddle, Banjo and the Mandolin. He IS THE MOST UNDER RATED GUITARIST. Watch his Odd Couple episode when he plays Malaguana. His strumming hand moves so fast you can’t see it. Beautiful musician.
