Roy Hill: From Daytona to the Drag Strip

Roy Hill has always been like family to the Petty’s and has been someone we could count on. In this video we sit down to talk about some of Roy’s beginnings with the Petty’s and how he got his start in drag racing. Keep in mind we do our filming in a race shop so apologies in advance for the air hose in the background.

Saw Roy run a lot in the early 70s in the southeast. That blue and white Duster really stood out. Was my favorite pro stock car.

Great show....love Roy Hill.....one little tibit....I brothers in law....knew a man a Mopar Drag racer Billy West...who lived in Selma NC..drove Little Pilgrim...would come down and get parts and stuff from your dad....Buddy Martin lives in Fayetteville NC...runs a used car dealership..use to see him it been awhile ..great guy too....

This was certainly a treat! Love Ol' Roy Hill & Tricky Ricky Smith too!! I remember well when Roy & later on Ricky showed up wearing "The KING" color's on their NHRA Pro Stock car's, although I must admit that I wasn't very happy when they didn't do a lot more winning whilst wearing that iconic paint scheme! I mean, if you're gonna fly those color's, you best be WINNING! 😉 Being a HUGE PETTY FAN, I love your channel, please keep um coming 🙏

Loved this and listening to you guys talking with Roy. I actually got to steer that blue and white Duster up into the trailer one night at Piedmont or Farmington. My Dad and Roy were great friends. We went with him to the races and after the races Roy told me to get in and steer it up into the trailer. I thought I was all that. Think I was about 9-10 years old. I have two 8x10 black and white pictures of that car that Roy gave me and signed for Christmas one year. One said "Petty goes straight" and told about Roy starting to drive for them with King and Roy leaned across the hood. I need to try and find those pics to show you guys. Thanks for sparking these great memories and being good friends!
