Jenkins's denunciation of those attacking him should be shown to every militant Remainer in the current Brexit crisis.

Wonderfully entertaining as always, Professor Bogdanor. Thanks for posting, Gresham! A point worth making, given the tenor of the good Professor's account: My mother was also a professional Bridge Player, wrote two bestselling books on the topic, had a very long running (over 25 years) Public Television show ("Bridge With Jean Cox") and retired a millionaire as a result. She was also highly educated, taught (American) English at a prestigious high school, and inculcated in her children a fine appreciation for the language and for scholastic, moral, and ethical, attainment in ourselves and others. I somehow managed to throw off that wonderful conditioning and have since become a poet, song writer, rock musician, Science Fiction and Fantasy writer, and, in general, a determined enemy of Scientific and Academic intransigence. I do wish, sometimes, that I had more closely followed her lead.

Jenkins was a fine historian and biographer. A terrible politician

Jenkins was a competent historian and biographer, but a pompous oaf in real life.

His liberal legislation is certainly not to his credit, the dismantling of Britain's social and sexual laws, which he was largely responsible for, proved to be the ruination of a civilised society not the creation of one.
