One of my favourite Roy tracks is “You’re Not Alone Anymore” off the Wilburys album.

I was stationed in Japan in 93-95'. I had the chance to gig with Jimmy Angel. He looked like Roy and sang like Elvis. Honest to Goodness, he would drink a chocolate milkshake before we went on, every night. It blew my mind that he could sing. Amazing. Great interview Pete.

As one of a gazillion Orbison fans, I am fascinated by Roy's beverage selection before singing. Unbelievable! Pete nails it, saying it was all the wrong stuff to drink before singing. Or announcing, for that matter, to which I can attest as a former DJ. Smoking, too. Though singers and announcers will tell you it gives the voice resonance. Of course the downside of smoking is lung disease: like emphysema and cancer. I don't recommend it. Thanks, Pete, for a great story, well-told, and a unique peek behind the scenes with one of my all-time favorite singers, Roy Orbison. BTW, a nicely shot and produced segment. Great audio, too. :)

Nat King Cole and Roy are both in talks for greatest voices of all time. Nat also was a chain smoker and said it helped his voice.
