I always admired him since childhood. He looked like he was slightly uncomfortable having to answer these question as though he was thinking "why does anyone care about my opinion anyway?!". He was one of a kind.

Folks always called my old man "Brody" from as early as I can remember because of his resemblance to Roy in Jaws. Watching a sweet man like Roy give a pleasant interview makes me miss my dad a great deal... Thanks Roy. You're really and truly missed by a lot of great people.

As a British sci fi fan and film lover, Roy kills it for me, what a tremendous bloke. He hated jaws 2 sommuch he pretended to have a mental episode and smashed his hotel room up. Rock and roll. Just a brilliant actor who you'd love to sit down and have a few ales with. Very sorely missed. RIP Roy.

Jaws is his best film, but All that Jazz is his best performance. Still he should have won an Academy Award for any of his performances as he was truly one of a kind and the best at what he did. It’s quite unfortunate he never won an Oscar for any of his performances.

I am a fan of his. I was sad when hearing of his passing. The cool thing about movies is that when you're watching, even if the person you're watching has since passed away, you can still be fully engaged with them as if they are magically alive again. My wife calls that "living in the past" when I watch home movies of my mom when she was still alive. I don't agree. I'm glad audio/video recordings allow one to occasionally '''time travel", and visit with those who have left this particular reality. I find no flaw remembering them in such a way.

Fascinating! He never did strike me as a standard celebrity type. Since his natural presence -gaunt face, awe inspiring physicality- was often part of the character he played, I always wondered what his background was. 52 Pick Up was somewhere on KZbin a while ago. I also liked Sorcerer, Marathon Man and The Fourth War. Only Scheider could play these parts well.

What a class act. Hollywood in it's great Hey Day. One of the things I love about Roy Scheider was his ability to inject extremely technical aspects of his roles (Helicopter pilot, NASA director) into his acting. He made it look easy and natural. Probably stemming from his military experience.

thank you for this upload. i was just a kid when roy came to my attention (76 or so, i was 11) i am not a movie historian but i know my shit. anyways roy was intense, funny, and committed to his craft. from "the french connection" to "marathon man" to of course "jaws", you could tell he didn't mind gettin' dirty with some of physically demanding scenes he did. i had respect for roy as an actor but knew nothing about the man. interviews like this shed new light on a man that i have even more respect for now.

One of my favorite actors EVER. I was disappointed when he accepted his role in SeaQuest... because that show was completely beneath an actor of his caliber. And I don't feel bad about saying this, either... because as I understand it, Scheider wasn't very happy with that series, either.

I saw Roy Scheider in JAWS in 1975. I was about 9 years old and the movie scared hell out of me. However, I saw Chief Brody as the guy in the room that was reasonable. Ever to this day, when things are falling apart around me, I think, "what would chief Brody think about this? What would he do?" True story.

A little surprising that Hyams cast such a recognisable actor (after 'Jaws' especially) as an everyman lead character, but Scheider was both a talented actor and a really engaging screen presence, so I guess it makes sense. Lithgow, Balaban and Mirren were all less well known at the time.

I remember watching an episode of Family Guy where Scheider and Dreyfuss guest starred. The latter was doing a parody of his Narrator Role in Stand By Me and they made Joe's Narrator to be Roy. They did both a Jaws and 555 number joke which made me laugh so damn hard. The next day after I found out he died soon after that role. It was nice to know he went out on a laugh. Stars rarely go out on a laugh.

After all is said and done, what is left as valuable is having served others, and what remains as really troublesome is being conscious of not having served others as much and as many time one could. This not American, but just a sign of maturity (spiritual, if one might add...).
