Still exuberant about creating in his later years. This man's inner boy refuses to be silenced by the ravages of time. inspiring!

I've grown up watching Roy underhill and it's because of him that I'll take a break from my modern woodworking tools and do a project old school. I always feel like more of a true carpenter when I get out my great great grandfather's tools and really build something by hand. Thanks roy.

I just discovered Roy Underhill today, thanks to KZbin connectivity. I love his whole approach, the look - what style! - and the philosophy that underlies it. A great combo: looks good on the surface, and runs deep and true all the way down. Sound! Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

We can't get away from it you say? Damn, imagine my fainting soul when I moved from the country to a major city. I moved from a place where I could make anything from material that was just there for grab to a place... You get the drift. 10 years I've managed to survive in this state. No more :)

I love the Shakespeare reference: As You Like It, Act 3, scene 3: Jacques: And will you, being a man of your breeding, be married under a bush like a beggar? Get you to church, and have a good priest that can tell you what marriage is. This fellow will but join you together as they join wainscot. Then one of you will prove a shrunk panel and, like green timber, warp, warp.

Also living near Pittsboro, I would have thought the most common trees to come floating down that river would be gum, poplar, oak and then pine or maple. I have a bandsaw mill and wish I could get more walnut! Good video, thanks.

I will probably go to hell when I die because I look up to this gentleman as a god. I am jealous that he gets to do what he loves for a living and is probably a millionaire many times over for it. and here I am, 30 years old, still sleeping in the same bed I was born, raised, and conceived in. ive done nothing with my life except start trouble and cause grief for others. I wish I could make a living doing traditional woodwork. I searched the internet for jobs and found none. the only one has been taken and filled by roy underhill.

Hi Roy. I have watched your show for many many years and have enjoyed all of them . I do have one question that has given me fits. In each of the starts of your show you are going through the woods and over a stream and petting a dog. My question is: What happened to the ax that you have in your hand just before you pet the dog and when you pet the dog there is no ax in your hand. From a left handed woodworker, Garland Draper from Michigan.

You know, before the schools went full retard on political correctness, many kids actually did carry afterschool activity items to school. Many kids actually brought shotguns and 22 rimfire rifles, the former for bird hunting, the latter for target practice. No one ever got hurt and if a fight did break out, it was done with fists and quickly broken up as soon as both parties recognized whatever they were upset about wasn't nearly as important as their now sore jaw. lol. Nowadays, you can't even bring a pocket knife to school without being treated like a terrorist.

In Shelburne Nova Scotia there is a Dory shop they build Dory boats out of wood as the old sailors would go out to sea to fish these Dory's would fit into a sightly larger dory stacked on a large sailing ship my GGGGGGG GRAND DAD went to Shelburne in November 1783 evacuating New York they went out fishing exspecyed to be out fishing WOR many weeks they came back to Shelburne 24 hours later with a schooner so full of Codfish from Shelburne knowl you could not fit another fish in the ship . there was snow reported every month for a year a volcano in Asia disrupted the weather for a year my Finlay McIntosh and Scottish Wife Christiania settled tow lot 7 near the Courthouse and a farm lot at River Jorden two of his brothers John and Alexander where with them in the 76 Regiment of Foot with Cornwallis at Yorktown . they all later moved to a 450 acher Scotch point in Port Jolly N.S. it is now Thomas Randell Proviental Park . There are tours at the Dory shop in Shelburne every summer where they still build the flat bottom Dory's .

I'm a cameraman, and there were huge problems with Sony cameras back then. They always focused on the background... especially when either the background was brighter, or when the subject wasn't right in the middle. Unfortunately, in this video, both were the issue.

Yes, a MASTER, in all his shows, Roy presents a lot of skill and also more "other" masters, his shop is always in a state of chaos and disorganized, I mean no disrespect to the "Master" but, I've never ever saw even ONE masterpiece made by Roy. In all his videos he shows some joints made by him Mediocre at best and some Sub par pieces that even I as a novice can do better, again, no disrespect. I have one request, can anyone point me to a site where The Master, Roy Underhill shows his masterpiece creations? Sincerely.
