Are you kidding, his Christmas classic (Wish it could be Christmas every day) makes him thousands in royalties every year, and it gets played on a loop constantly. He is given so much recognition from just that ONE song alone. And fans have followed his career for decades.

So very well done on this one guys, Roy is a legend on the Brit rock scene and this was a heart-warming interview and obviously enjoyed by the audience as well! I did not know of Roy's connections with ELO and the great Jeff Lynne and the band, what a great association. Thanks for this and keep em coming Nigel!
@paulshepherd8295
@paulshepherd8295 Жыл бұрын
At the time, The Move was down to a 3-piece band (Roy, Jeff & Bev Bevan). ELO was Roy's idea, and at the time he said that the aim was to continue where I Am The Walrus had left off - more orchestral stuff, etc. If you listen to the last Move album and the first ELO album, you'll hear this transition. The problem was 2 egos, each wanting to go in a different direction, so Roy left and formed Wizzard, Jeff & Bev (and others) carried on as ELO. ELO of course was (and still is) massively successful, and had Roy stayed I suspect that it would have been less commercially successful but more musically interesting and experimental. Roy remains one of the great unsung heroes of British music, and hasn't really had the recognition he deserves.

Speaking as an Irish person, I’ve often remarked about the sheer amount of great music that’s come out of the UK (including some classic stuff from Roy Wood) - and it’s undeniable that, perhaps, the “golden period” was all the music “pre-accession” to the then EEC - let’s look forward to some great songs in the Brexit era - and - to our “French friends” (where’s their “Beatles”, “Rolling Stones”, “David Bowie” etc ?) - all I can say is: “Quel Dommage” !
