In this presentation, we follow the Canadian Pacific company business train for the first two days of it's journey from Calgary, AB to Fernie, BC.
After Fernie, the train ran to Lethbridge, AB and then the day after back to Calgary where the train was tied down and put away until it's next assignment.
This video is full of history of the Royal Canadian Pacific, and even features some exclusive footage in some cars from the RCP fleet!
Watch through to the credits to see some of my favorite deleted scenes from the trip that didn't quite make their way into the main presentation.

In 1961 our family rode the Canadian when moving from Calgary to Winnipeg (Army Life) and back to Calgary in 1967. I enjoyed the dome cars, a real treat.

I worked on this train, for a season, 20 some years ago. I was very blessed to be able to experience all of the magic. The level of service, from the 5 course meals, the attentive, informed and engaging service staff, to the incredible scenery. The history and beautiful craftsmanship of the cars was more than enough to take you to a different time. After turndown service and our 24 guests were tucked away for the night, I spent quite a few nights on the vestibule with a brandy or a fine glass of wine, reveling in the stars and the beauty. PS. I also worked my a$$ off! 16 hour days!! Example: Carrying trays of champagne flutes on a moving train! Quite a skill I might add!

This has to be one if your best productions yet. The RCP is a fantastic example of how a luxury train should be done. The wood working on the inside alone is enough to blow your mind besides the beautiful exterior. Also I appreciate the information on the locomotives as I did not know what happened to 1400 after she was retired. Great job Rob!

Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked the video! The RCP has always been one of my favorite trains. Though many railfans and train enthusiasts know of it, they don't know much about it which is a shame because it's a train full of history and wonder.

My husband and i had the pleasure and experience of going from Palliser in Calgary to Fairmont. B.C. on her in early 2000s with the company he worked for at the time. This will always one of my core memories. Its what I think the Titanic would have looked like if it was a train. 🤩

Excellent scenery, footage and historical information. 👍 But a lot of sections of video appear to be suffering from over compression causing "blockiness" which detracts from the beauty of the scenery like at 16:59 the hillside is flickering back and forth with compression blocks. It could be the original video was not high bitrate enough to begin with and then add in KZbin compression on top of it made it worse.

Yes, that was a product of sub-par equipment. I was filming using a Sony cx405 Handycam and editing on a computer that could barely handle Microsoft Word lol. But those days are behind us, having upgraded to proper 4K gear and editing equipment in late 2021. Glad you enjoyed the video though, even with its defects.

Many of the subdivision timetables in Canada can be found on www.traingeek.ca. Also, published annually is an updated version of the subdivisions, train symbols, train routes and more of CP and CN in a book called the "Canadian Trackside Guide". I recommend purchasing a copy if you can, it's very helpful.

At 8:45 you mention that 1400 went to Ogden park in Calgary, I searched for it but couldn't find it, even on google maps I was unable to locate. Can you give a link or some further information on it, I would like to visit this summer.
@ghost_pine_film_productions
@ghost_pine_film_productions 3 жыл бұрын
It's at CPs headquarters at Ogden in Calgary, Alberta. 1400 and 29 are on static display beside the CP Police building. If you do go for a visit, you'll likely have to take photos from your car because it's on CP property. The reason you can't find them on Google is because they weren't there when they were taking photos for maps/earth. The police building is still under construction, and only one of the tracks is in place with neither 29 or 1400 in the photos. Here is a link to where the locos are: earth.app.goo.gl/?apn=com.google.earth&isi=293622097&ius=googleearth&link=https%3a%2f%2fearth.google.com%2fweb%2fsearch%2fCp%2bhead%2boffice,%2bOgden%2bDale%2bRoad%2bSoutheast,%2bCalgary,%2bAB,%2bCanada%2f%4050.99484399,-113.99771115,1025.94498339a,434.71692125d,35y,62.45097791h,53.11558252t,360r%2fdata%3dCigiJgokCfB1gV9UeElAEe6ose47d0lAGbdQfAt_iFzAIfiwvKePilzA

Great video but work on your pronounciation of "Calgary". Its main syllable stress is on the latter part of the word and not the front like you are saying. The Cal- part of Calgary is stressed (where you stress the accent), not -gary.

CP officials riding a train as "Royalty"........pathetic when Canadians are struggling to buy groceries.....these idiots are not royalty.....its the hard working Canadians that built this railway and not some nitwit officials that never lifted a shovel to build this railway.....let the employees ride the train free instead and let the so called "royalty" serve those that actually built this train and the railway
