Sailed on the Serenade of the Seas last fall and LOVED it! Sailed from Boston to Maine to Canada. I like this size of ship (2,490 passengers) and since it was October there were just a few kids on board. We loved it so much we're doing the same cruise in 2019, but a little later so we catch more of the fall colors. Royal offers such a variety of experiences there is really something for everyone! Radiance of the Seas and Jewel of the Seas are my two faves with Royal Caribbean. All of the massive windows offer amazing views as you sail. I have to agree, ideal in Alaska as well as the Baltic for the natural beauty!

I thought it was interesting you said Norwegian was for a younger crowd. I've been on three Norwegian cruises now all while being in my mid twenties. My boyfriend and I were one of the only people in our age group on all three of the cruises. I would say about 70% of the passengers were at least 40 years of age if not more. Very few young cruisers.

That was a great review and very informative, but you left out some things. I find it frustrating that everyone talks about the blatant things to do, but no one ever mentions the less strenuous activities that are on RCL ships. They have things like jewellery making, cooking classes, cupcake decorating, dance lessons, language lessons, and lectures. So, although those huge ships are full of more strenuous activities, they also have these other more sedate things. It would really be nice if someone would show them now and then for people like my hubby and I. We can't be as active as we once were, but we do enjoy the hub bub of lots of people doing active things. I truly enjoy "people watching" and there's plenty of that on any cruise ship. We have been avoiding cruising because it seemed there wasn't going to be much for us. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that these other activities are available on the big, new RCL ships because no one has ever mentioned them in their reviews and vlogs. Maybe you could check them out and highlight them in one of your next cruises. :)

This was so well done! I love that you gave a breakdown on the RC classes of ships and loved the comparison chart w RC, NCL and Celebrity. Those are the 3 lines I’m looking at for my first cruise. I’m really leaning to RC Oasis class as I love the Neighborhoods and activities on the ship as well as the specialty dining. I also like NCL “The Haven” suites for a luxurious and romantic getaway. That NCL Bliss ship looks amazing as does the totally tricked out Celebrity Edge. You have a great channel and your videos are very informative and fun! Thank you! The drink packages actually do include gratuity. When you are signing the slip it does have a line for it but it has been included. You can leave an additional tip for really good service which is what I tend to do. So keep that in mind.

Hi , great video. One more thing to update-not that big of a deal. The Freedom class was build in the mid to late 2000s, not 90s. Maiden voyage for Freedom of the Seas was in 2006. These ships are a little newer! I'm glad that you pointed out that it is a slightly elongated version of the Voyager class. I see so many people push Freedom class and up, while Voyager is very similar!

There are plenty of things included in the cost of your cruise, you will have a great time. If you factor in the cost of the tips when planning or pre pay your gratuities there will be no surprises while onboard. A cruise sounds perfect for a birthday celebration. :-)

Some cruise lines have lots of up charges and reservation requirements. That said they also have many free or included activities and dining. Carnival tends to be less exspensive overall and tend to have less surprises like up charges etc. Overall each cruise line has their advantages and disadvantages. Most people twnd to prefer the one they go pn first. Lol imagine that.

Had a cruice on Harmony of the seas in May. Great ship, destinations, food and cabins. The drawback is the swimming pools. Just way to small for 5-6000 passengers. Does all cruice ships have small pools?

Weight too. Water is extremely heavy, much more than cabins or dining venues. Having a 50x5x1.5m pool for example is 375 tons of water up on the top decks. A typical cruise ship pool is somewhere around 60 to 80 tons. So even on oasis class where it could have a massive pool size wise, its just not practical from a engineering point of view.

I've heard the claim that RCI deliberately serves less than high quality meals in the main dining room. So why in the world is such a huge chunk of space designated to these elaborately decorated and staffed dining rooms? My experience was an almost empty dining room with only 2-4 people at large tables for 8. I ate there once and skipped it for the remainder. It was very odd sitting at near empty tables, trying to make conversation with two complete strangers. Going to all the trouble to get dressed up on "Formal Night" for this? I don't think so!

They serve less quality food to encourage you to eat at the premier restaurants because that's where they make their money. If you go on a cruise and stick to whatever is covered in your ticket price the cruise line makes very little money. This is the first I have heard that there is only a few people in the main dinning room. All the comments I have seen talk about how long the lines are to get in to the dinning room and how long the wait is for your food once you actually get a table, even with an assigned dinning time. This concerns me a bit because I'll be cruising on the Oasis in September and don't want to spend an hour waiting in line for dinner and another hour waiting for my food.

My guess is that there is way more shopping in the Caribbean and all the stores IE Diamonds International kick back to the cruise lines to off set the costs of these ships and to keep them coming back.

The main reason is the new ships are so big that they cannot go through the Panama canal and thus would have to go all the way around South America which it does not seem they want to do. Similarly, they can't pass through Egypt to go to Asia and then the west coast. They would have to go around the entirety of Africa and then over Asia, and down from Alaska, which they also dont want to do. Norwegian Bliss is a new ship that will do Alaska and Mexican Riviera next year. Hopefully rcl can figure out what to do to have new ships on the west coast.

Super late and possibly unnecessary realization....As far I, an American, know, most Americans don't use the term "noughties" to refer to the 2000s. We just sad 2000s. So, most likely, to the untrained and naive ear Noughties sounds like 90s thus creating misunderstandings. Maybe add captions or text on screen with the dates written? I only recognized it because my mom would always joke about things being back in "19-ought-ought" and I realized that was the 1900s. (Pretty sure she didn't need both "oughts".

My husband and I have both changed so much over the last ten years that we need an "all inclusive" type vibe. He is handicapped, requiring forearm crutches, and I'm still all messed up from a serious car accident. So what I was able to do physically (I refer to it as being the "pack mule" I can no longer do) So he still wants to go to Mexico etc. but then we have so many issues to deal with. Our friend has been a travel agent for at least 99 and a half years and she suggested a cruise. Wanna know my only fear? Bratty children! I have zero tolerance for exhausted kids whining and crying even out in public SO, we shall see.

My own personal experience. We have been to 3 all inclusive resorts and 3 cruises with a 4th cruise coming in May 2018 and I've seen way more people with mobility issues on cruises than resorts. There are more staff on cruise ships to offer assistance. Resorts are really not staffed that way. I find the cruising experience to be more catered and has a personal touch. Your almost waited on hand and foot. This will vary depending on the cruise line and the itinerary. Research different cruise lines like Celebrity, Princess, Holland America just to name a few if you want. Also if you want to reduce the chances of "bratty children" lol you need to avoid Xmas, spring breaks which seem to vary depending on where in the world you are and end of summer. Our last cruise was end of August to celebrate our Anniversary in Bermuda on Celebrity and it had a lot more kids and families tying to get that last little vacation in before school. What ever you choose to do hope you have a wonderful time.

In a way I can comprehend your thought. The negative part of being on board a cruise ship, is that you’re in hand of the cruise line’s all policies and restrictions, and of course their frequent tries to make you spend more money onboard. Being onboard a cruise ship can actually feel like you’re in a prison (that’s not least what the crew members feel it’s like)

Recently I sailed with R C L,Serenade of the Sea in Baltic Sea which we booked the Balcony cabin No.xx24 on 9th FL., Believe it or not that the first few words that the cabin steward talked to me were DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH ? I was so GOD DAM MAD .HE NEVER SAID GOOD MORNING OR HOW ARE YOU DOING OR EVEN WELCOME ABROAD. I think that guy needs --TRAINING AGAIN.

catcat Sue Could possibly be because there’s a lot cruisers in Europe with a different mother tongue than English. RCI attracts cruisers from all over the world, which means their crew often come across guests less familiar with English
