I would guess they are an "engineered to fail" part as they are an offical part. You want them just thick enough to protect the bike if you drop it in your driveway or at a stop sign, and maybe an easy slide. But if they were to strong, the impact to them if they hit something hard at speed would be transfured to the frame, bending the frame. So they make them thin enough that they will fail before the frame does, sacrificing itself and other replaceable parts to protect the frame in a harder crash. The same part made by an aftermarket company would probably be made a lot thicker as their reputation is attacxhed to the part, not the bike. And they would probably not buy a bike just to see how much force it takes to bend the frame at those mountings points. Somethings I would assume Royal Enfield already knew before they designed that part.

That makes sense. The only other crash bars I have had were on the CRF300 Rally and they were a smaller diameter but much more ridged. (The same bars as itchy boots)

Your seat and bags really look sharp and appropriate for the model. I have the same crash bar on my Meteor and like the comment by Rebel Cowboys I believe they are thin walled to minimize frame damage in the event of an incident. RE's accessories are certainly reasonably priced for the most part.

Just pull the top shock bolt. It’s not under pressure. It won’t go shooting off or anything crazy. At worst you might have to wiggle the shock back in place but it’s super easy.

@@arkansasoutdoorschannel1867 I can confirm this. Though I will say, be careful who you buy from. The ones I received, after waiting for a while, were misaligned, and I could not get them bolted to the frame. As someone else said, I wish there were more places in the US to get RE parts. I use Baxter Cycle whenever possible, but they don't have those panniers, or some other items I'd like.

Thanks for this! I have the same bike in Marsh Gray and the same saddle bags. I added the heel shifter bar, it's great. I wish RE had a North American store so we didn't have to buy on eBay and ship from India. BTW, your. seat looks great, too.

Great video, and totally sold me on getting some! I was looking at some options to mount cruising pegs, and was thinking these might work. It's really cool to know that I might not even need to get pegs. I was a bit concerned about them looking too bulky or something, but they honestly look pretty good, and kind of balance out the width of the panniers/saddlebags. Really nice looking bike, btw. I've got a Meteor in Fireball Yellow.

Hi good video but did you remove the clutch cable fastener at the top of the left LH fork? On the fitting instructions that I managed to download from Royal Enfield it says "Ensure the clutch cable is not routed through the upper cable guide at the top of the front LH fork. Easily unplug the clip from the vehicle, its snap fitted." Its a plastic clip that just pulls out, and it stops the cable pulling tight when you turn the handle bars to the right.

Thanks for the video. I was on the fence about buying these but after watching your install I decided to follow through. I am wondering out loud though, are you interested at all in installing a bash plate/sump guard? I love my classic and I am interested in doing some light off roading, mostly sandy roads or gravel. Strongly considering a bash plate/sump guard. Thanks.

I’ve thought about it but I’m not sure. If I could get one for review I would do it but not sure I want to buy one just yet. I’ve thought about dirt roads on the bike and I’ve even got video of me doing about 30mph with factory tires in the dirt.

I'm considering getting a set of these for my classic, but I can't find any information about the dimensions of these. Would you be able to measure the full width of the bars across the widest part if you get a moment please. i.e. are they wider than the handlebars? Most of the pictures I've seen of them make them look very wide compared to the bike. They don't look so bad on your video though.

It is taller when not sitting on the bike. My 200lbs drops it a little but even with my weight on it it is still a little taller than the factory seat. I feel that this is mostly a cosmetic upgrade. With all of that said I still love the looks of the bike and I get attention everywhere I go on it.

I really like the bike, but engine guards that stick out too far can turn a low side accident into a much more dangerous high side accident by causing the bike to rock back up onto its tires and then flip over.
