Brilliant videos sir. Having fitted the de-cat, my advice would be to leave a quarter of an inch of gasket protruding then tighten the clamp. This prevents the gasket shooting inside the de-cat, as it did on mine. I am very tempted with the cam……when funds allow, it might just have to happen. Thanks for putting these two vids together, I appreciate how long they take to create.

Very informative video, as normal. The excitement in your voice on the improvement this has made overall is fantastic.😊 It’s not about riding flat out, it’s that it’s got much more manageable improvement up throughout all gears, going up hills and overtaking, etc. I will be keeping eye out on Hitchcocks web site, for it coming into stock. The 3 upgrades looks like a well worthwhile purchase, improving on a great wee 350 bike. Well done Ian, best wishes, and nice to chat again on Sunday.

Hi Berry Congratulations on becoming a Classic 350 owner, like many I’m sure you’re enjoying this fabulous little bike. Another brilliant couple of videos Tigerness - thank you! I did read that once the cam is fitted you should not allow the bike to idle at all for several minutes? This is counter intuitive with the ECU reset procedure though. I doubt it makes any difference to the bedding in process but I wonder if you could carry out the Kent Cams initial running instructions first, then allow the bike to fully cool (overnight?) before doing the ECU reset? Edit: Sounds like the 16T gearbox sprocket might definitely be worth a revisit?

I didn’t like the Hitchcocks free flow exhaust, it was just too loud for me. I only put it on the bike because of the free flow exhaust and sold it along with that exhaust system a while ago. Thanks for these really fun and informative videos, just wondering why you did not add a DNA filter? Is there any reason? As i have always thought the cheapest performance upgrades are, more air in and quicker release of gases. Love to know your thoughts, thanks
@tigerness55559 ай бұрын
I’ve had similar K&N filters in the past, they were a lot more expensive than standard filters and the cleaning and re-oiling of them was a pain. I also don’t think the cost is worth the very slight potential power increase. The DNA filter does give more induction noise but that’s not necessarily more power. I’ve setup my bike exactly as Hitchcocks did for their performance camshaft test on the Dyno. I’m now very happy with the performance of my bike, it’s definitely much better than standard. Interesting video. More lift generally gives more power over all. Same with opening up the flow. More air an fuel equals more power from top to bottom. Moving the timing of when it opens moves the RPM range it is being produced. That graph shows a slight drop in power at the bottom an lots more power at the top. So that makes me think it has more aggressive timing. Not much more I am sure because its a wast to push the power above the rev limiter. But without O2 reading, I cant say that the engine management is not just doing a bad job of off idle fueling for all that extra air. I have been wondering why everyone is adding these aftermarket fuel systems on a new bike that should have a learning system able to correct for mods. Can the system is has not do its job? I have not found any videos showing O2 reading. Just videos guessing, taking upgrade companies word for it and/or butt feel. This is the first video I have seen to even state the fact that new bike have learning systems. In lots of other peoples videos they dont seem to know that or chose to not talk about it.

Many thanks for your very informative and interesting comments. It’s very difficult to know if fitting a FuelX makes any difference. This was brilliant. Your joy over the bikes improvements are infectious. I suggest you look at "Foxy's" video on his Classic 350 mods. After doing the intake and exhaust mods, he put the Fuel x lite on his and he noticed that there was not really a change in performance, just a smoothness of throttle response. The big change he noted was that the exhaust temperature was halved.. this could have some serious implications with regards to wear and longevity of the engine. I suspect that these intake and exhaust mods run the bike very lean, beyond the ability of the OE fuel management system to compensate for.
@mattdog198211 ай бұрын
Similar to the euro 4 650s. A booster plug is recommended for a full exhaust change.
@tigerness555511 ай бұрын
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 I’ve watched Foxxy’s videos and would question the references to halving the exhaust temperature. My bike runs perfectly, it’s smooth, no snatching throttle or anything, just runs very well. I’ve taken the spark plug out a few times to check the colour and condition and it’s also perfect. So for the moment I don’t see the need for fitting the FuelX. I followed what Hitchcocks have done on their video. I have a Booster Plug on my Bonneville SE and it works on that bike.

It could be argued that smoothing out throttle response IS improving performance. Performance is based on various factors, eg. handling, braking, even comfort, not just speed and acceleration.

Looks like a good set of upgrades. I imagine that in normal riding there might also be an improvement in economy, as the extra pulling power would enable you to use higher gears at times. @tigerness555511 ай бұрын
Great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and hope you found them useful 👍 I don’t expect the economy will have improved, it’s such a frugal machine on petrol that it’s not really an issue. Maybe a Royal Enfield dealer can fit those items to a 'J' series 350 at initial purchase of a new bike, with the benefit of having virtually new & almost unused spare parts to help offset the costs. Far better than Joe Blow new owner having those parts sitting around the place in their garage that would likely have some usage already out of them. An interesting & entertaining video on the whole, we see then that 20hp at the rear wheel is obtainable, which would likely be about 25hp at the crank. I suspect with a few other mods 30 hp at the crank is achievable, not particularly what a RE 350 Classic is all about but I say a good 30/30, that being a 30hp & 30 ft/lbs of torque is good enough for most folk even in these days. A 'J' series new 500 then would likely fulfil that criteria. I do have a hope that the main reason the new liquid cooled 452 engine is not a 500, (which I would have ensured it was!). Bedding the cam in is contradictory to Enfield advice on ECU learning....ie keep it revving between 2k and 3k for the first 15 minutes and do not allow to idle during this time. Personally I don't think either make any difference, fit and go out and ride, the ECU constantly monitors air and fuelling and I see no logical reason for the idling for however long to let it learn. Anyway, love the mods, particularly your demonstrating the cam fitting..might do it myself when Hitchcock's gets more in.
@tigerness555511 ай бұрын
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍 I did actually run in the new camshaft as you described, the video was made days after fitting it. I just followed the ECU learning process as found in the service manual I found online. Interestingly, when all the parts were first fitted there was some popping from the exhaust when closing the throttle. After the ECU learning the popping has completely gone, so it does seem to work.
@Sticky-gp2yh11 ай бұрын
Maybe....I've only fitted the decat pipe and it was a bit poppy, but it's really sweet now, and I did do a 15 minute idle. After first service really rides on song round country lanes. It can be ridden quite sportily in fact as well as a plodder.

If I was you I would wait until the bike is at the very least, fully run in. Get to know the bike, understand how well it performs in standard trim, only then will you know if any or all the modifications you make are worthwhile or not. I also assume that it’s a brand new bike and that the manufacturers warranty is important to you. Some changes may invalidate the warranty in some dealers eyes. I didn’t make any performance modifications to my bike until it had done around 4,000 miles. Hope this helps 👍

I want to know what all these things do and no one wants to do this. I have heard from some who did the decat, filter and fuelX and said there was every little difference. Just ruined the mpg. Hitchcocks said 10% from just filter upgrade, so I don't know. However, your results sound encouraging.
@tigerness5555Ай бұрын
Hi Allan You’re quite correct, on their own, the decat pipe, filter and FuelX will not make much difference in performance. The bike will go a little bit better and will sound louder giving the impression of increased performance. The performance camshaft along with some or all of the other items definitely does give more power. That said the bike does not have any increase in top speed due to the ECU attached to the throttle body restricting top speed. It’s debatable whether any of these performance improvements are worthwhile, the standard bike is very good in its own right. You have to rev the modified bike much more to extract the power. The engine is quite happy doing this and has proved to be problem free. Would I do it all again, being honest, I’m unsure. Hope this answers your question 👍😁 The modifications I’ve done to my Classic 350 are: Decat pipe Open air filter cover, with standard filter (not DNA) FuelX light Performance camshaft 16 tooth gearbox sprocket

My bike is still restricted due to the ECU, I have tried the RLT00187 but it’s not compatible with the Classic 350. It’s a very strong and reliable engine so it should be able to take the power increase ok. I’m on the fence with this one and waiting to see how it works out with other owners, plus I really don’t tend to ride my bike hard very much, I use my bigger bikes for that. The stock bike makes 15 brake horsepower and Hitchcox report 20 brake horsepower with the modifications. So if we take 20÷15 it gives us 1.33. Great to hear that you enjoyed the video 👍 To be honest I don’t check on my fuel consumption on any of my bikes. It’s probably not quite as good as the standard bike but it’s still amazingly frugal. Well worth sacrificing a little bit of extra petrol for the performance gains in my opinion.

Great video. I’d heard that the bike is limited on the ecu to 70mph, have you found this to be the case or have you seen an improvement in that as well?

Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍 The Classic 350 Reborn and the Meteor 350 both have top speed limiters, they cannot go above 75 mph. The camshaft definitely improves the acceleration and top end power, but it can’t make the top speed gonany faster. The Hunter on the other hand is not speed limited. I’ve spoken to a Hunter rider who has the camshaft fitted and his bike has done 87mph.

I think I would want to see if the mods put more strain on other engine parts also I would contact Enfield to check if any harm may be done?

I’m pretty sure Royal Enfield will not recommend any modifications that are not standard R.E. parts. As is the case with every manufacturer.

I'm definitely doing this to my Meteor. Could you do an MPG test running at normal speeds.

Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 This bike is so frugal on petrol, I don’t imagine it uses much more.

Brilliant! Maybe I should try the same procedure on my Interceptor!
