Royal Enfield Himalayan air filter change/clean/replace

Hey all
So here is another video on how to change/clean/replace air filter on RE Himalayan. Service manual say 5000, but trust me, doing this simple job at 2000 to 3000 kms is not a bad idea for smooth and long running engine. There is also a surprise in there, an improv kinda..

Thanks Professor Himalayan , I am so glad you have shown me that 'false' bolt holding the cover on. I would have been shouting and swearing for hours, trying to figure it out. lol

The 4th bolt on the side plate is for an additional triangular plate that covers the lower gap. I have one in mine 🙂

Hi, i have a bs3 himalayan carb generation one. So my idle rpm fluctuates when i start, should i change the airfilter or any carburettor issues?

You didn't tell about the water splashing problem after removing the modification you have done, bcoz i am facing the same problem of water splashing to airfilter. Please reply.

Yes bro.. Completely forgot about that as monsoon have passed. And even in Spiti ride I was a bit scared about water crossings. But luckily sailed through. None the less. That is the only issue I have faced this far. Major or minor depends on the surroundings we find ourselves in.. Will be addressing that shortly. Thanks for the reminder :D Cheers:)

I have also did the same thing...bt wen we cross River with some decent speed the water is getting into air box from the front side...and sucked by the air vent ...so the front portion also need to be closed...will be doing dat

If u are covering the airfilter vent ? How is the air intake process going to work ?

Hey, there is enough gap. I have just covered the gap between chassis and underbody panel :)

When the airfilter got wet did you face starting issues or lag in acceleration???becoz I think I am facing the same problem

Hey mate, oh yes yes. best thing to do is to replace the air filter once it gets wet., so we can get the best performance out of the paper filament type filter. Cos once its dry the issue will subside but still the hardening of the material will cause obstruction to inflow

Hi Professor Himalayan. So I happened to have dipped my paper air filter in liquid detergent water and it took out a lot of dirt. It's currently drying under the fan away from sunlight. Can I reuse it or have I damaged it? You seem to be the person I should ask this to. I do not have a replacement filter currently.

Also if it's damaged, how exactly will it manifest? What difference will I feel while riding?

Ooh no no no no. I can't even laugh at that title but first the issue at hand. Big nooooo Please don't reuse that filter. Its done, I can go into details of how that white mesh is all flurry and soft and spongy to keep the dust trapped but washing it would take half of that effectiveness away by partially hardening it and pretty much rendering it useless to capture and stop the finer dust particles and shooting them straight into the throttle body mixing it with fuel, clogging some small ports and shooting it further into the combustion chamber thus doing further damage to ring piston cylinder walls value seats valve seals etc etc So nooooo. Please buy a new filter right away. I wouldn't even suggest riding even 1 km on it. No That was scarry but now I can laugh at that title😋

That being said, if you have to ride to service center to buy a new one, ofcourse it better to put the damaged one rather then no filter. But avoid dusty roads and stay on paved tarmac.

@@leuheanrede hey I just took a test ride with the ruined filter. The ride was alright. No problems with acceleration. I'm trying to think why. Is it letting unfiltered air through to the combustion chamber?

Bro what should we if water is entered engine through air filter and mixed up with oil ?

Change the oil and the oil filter too. Also change the air filter. Before starting remove the spark plug and only then crank the engine a few times so any water that might be in the throttle body or combustion chamber will escape out of the chamber through spark plug hole without hyrolocking or damaging valve. @@leuheanrede bro I also owned bs6 himalayan . And after water gets in , I ride almost 5 more kms then I realised water gets in 😭. At present I drained oil . For getting new Filter and all staffs there is no shop opened anywhere in my location. Is this situation affects my bike ?😐

@@nijilreji5342 oh ok. See the point is we need to change it as soon as possible at first opportunity we get. So as we have lockdown going on we have to wait. In the meantime avoid riding it until oil and oil filter and air filter are changed. But if you have to ride in emergency or to take it to service center, it gonna be ok. Don't rev it too much.

Hello, I had problems after Riding trough water also, sudden hickups while accelerating, up to 1 second. I replaced the air filter and cleaned the spark plug, but the issue isn’t resolved. Do you maybe know what else could lead to this?

Hi please make sure that TPS sensor is properly connected. And also check for spark plug cap. Make sure there is no corrosion, clean if need. Same for TPS too. Cheers

I think u r blocking air filter by ur extra fitting which u have installed for water protection, are u sure about that ?

Thats a good point there, I too thought of the same issue. Idea is to make sure that while installing that sheet there is enough gap between the scoop and the sheet itself. That is why I cut out that mount to position it in a way that it always stays away from the intake scoop while anchoring with outer airbox cover with allen screw and no vibrations will bring it closer to air scoop.
