In the absence of any service manuals (even my local RE dealer diodn;t have one!) this is a super valuable video. Many thx for showing this operation

Thanks for sharing that clean job! I will remove my tank this weekend for a similar reason than yours: I will pass the wires of a cellphone charger from the dashboard to the battery. The towels are a great idea! Thanks again!

Well demonstrated. With your guide, I lifted my tank today to allow the installation of voltmeter/USB port combination. Cheers David

When I took my tank off I tie wrapped all the wires to the frame spine to make sure none of the wires touched the cylinder head so avoiding any chance of wires melting through, as it gets pretty hot under the tank 😃👍🏻

Thank you, it was informative I wanted to clean engine block outer surface but not confident in removing it.

Great clear video 👍 Is there no type of fuel tap to switch off to avoid fuel coming straight out of the tank when you disconnect the fuel line?
@stevetaylor8698 Жыл бұрын
You had it sorted, but one mistake I have made when removing the fuel tank is not to have a prepared surface on which to place it once removed. And there I am in my workshop/garage holding a heavy, full, fuel tank wondering, "where on Earth do I put this thing now?".

I've a stupid question: my first Himmi had a plug wire routed from the rear of the tank which gave some wiggle room for getting it off the plug. On my 2020 the plug wire appears to be routed from the front and the hard plastic shaft just above the actual boot prevents the boot from clearing the terminal on the plug - by a matter of one or two mm. There simply isn't wiggle room. Do you have any suggestions - I'd like to avoid having to pull the tank every time I want to see how my plug is faring? Thanks - and thanks for the great videos. Really, of all the videos on the dreaded Himmi that I've seen yours are the most complete and easy to follow. Greetings from New York!

Your question got me curious as i have not yet tried pulling the spark plug cap whilst the gas tank is in place so i just went out into my cold garage and crawled around on my hands & knees to try, guess what i have the same problem it would seem there is not enough clearance to remove the plug cap just as you described mmmm that can't be right. I have never had this problem before on other bikes and i have owned lots over the years. Maybe some one reading this can chime in & tell us how it's done or next time i visit my RE dealer i will ask them. I guess if the bolts that hold the tank were loosened enough to just raise the tank an inch or so would allow enough clearance but we should not have to mess around like that especially for a spark plug. Sorry i have no solution right now but i will be looking in to it .... It must be getting a bit nippy in NY right now anyway have a great weekend & thanks for the question...

@@JollyPeanut JP, I tried your suggestion: unbolted the tank, pulled it back off its mounts. I rested the tank on top of its mounts and then pulled the plug.
@JollyPeanut4 жыл бұрын
@@thomasaltfathergood Yep that will work but still not a good solution on the road. I will take a good look at mine when i get a chance, i was thinking maybe change the plug cap for a shorter one , maybe even upgrade the whole HT Lead with a better shorter cap i am confident that would do it although we should not have to do any of this with a new machine.

It was tight on the earlier models including the 2019 but always doable. The 2020 is different so I'm with you - we need a fix from RE. Thanks again. Cheers, Tom

Don´t you find the brake hoses running too close / scratching against the tank? I have just received my Himalayan and those braided brake lines seem to be pushed outwards / against the inner walls of the tank by the frame brackets. Thank you!
@JollyPeanut5 жыл бұрын
mine are tied to the box frame i can not say i have noticed any rubbing against the tank but i will take a closer look next time i take the tank off..Thanks buddy..
@rodrigoruffa74605 жыл бұрын
@@JollyPeanutI think that both hoses are rubbing (or maybe almost) the tank at the point they meet the tank a its front inner edges because the brackets/bushes that hold these hoses parallel to the frame are too far from the frame and too close to the tank. Mut maybe it´s just my feeling.
@JollyPeanut5 жыл бұрын
@@rodrigoruffa7460 I would not worry unless you see paint being rubbed of the tank, maybe put some painters tape over the length of the hoses then see how it goes over time. Some things are squeezed in tight on the Himalayan like the battery man that's a tight squeeze i will be upgrading to a lithium battery at some point...
@rodrigoruffa74605 жыл бұрын
@@JollyPeanut thank you! I thought about bending the tabs of the brackets to make some free space between the tank and the hoses. But the bike has only 25 kilometres on the clock, I think I´m getting a little obsessed!
@JollyPeanut5 жыл бұрын
@@rodrigoruffa7460 lol i know what you mean...maybe look at my video or other videos with the tank removed and try and see if yours looks the same. Maybe bending the tabs will do it...Or when you clock up 300 miles and take it for the first service mention it, they will have to take off the tank to check the tappets as that is part of the first service.Get out & ride enjoy your new bike the engine runs better smoother when you clock up a few hundred miles...

Getting the tank off was easy. A tricky job getting it back on. I'm still struggling... to line up the holes for the bolts. It's like I'm stuck on the rubber mounts 4 or 5mm short of where it should be...
