I believe you are adjusting the pilot mixture screw (fuel side). By turning it to the right you are reducing the fuel... when the air is thin, you need to also thin the fuel to maintain the air to fuel ratio. Modern injectors do this automatically, but good to see old fashioned carb adjustment.

Very informative video! I always wanted to know what does one need to do with carb when going to high altitude. It turned out to be very simple. No changing jets or sticking a wire in it - just turn one screw until you are happy with the engine idling. The explanation is simple and easy to follow, thank you Pavlin!

Thank you for the instructions. I realize this video is 3 years old, but if you don't mind I have a question. I'm preparing for a trip to Patagonia and the altitude ranges up to 5000 meters, I was told and I don't think is correct, that if I increase airflow to the carburetor by means of a direct fan to the air filter or inject pressurize air via small 02 tank this will help. I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thank you
@motorcycleadventures2 жыл бұрын
No it won't! You need to adjust the carburetor.

But that's just the idle mix screw. It's active to maybe 1/8 of throttle. So it won't affect anything above 1/8 throttle.

@motorcycleadventures2 жыл бұрын
Because of the catalytic converter, if it has it.
@grantplaster385823 күн бұрын
I’m pretty sure It doesn’t matter if it’s carburetored or fuel injected. The air has less oxygen and affect the fuel to oxygen ratio
@motorcycleadventures23 күн бұрын
It does, but on carburetor you need to adjust it or the motorcycle won't start and work anymore. On injection you don't need to do anything.

Good to see regulator rectifier out of the way, although it might get not there from heat of the engine. Good video, but prefer fuel injection these days. Swapping jets is a big faff!.
