David Skogley Well I've just finished my coast to coast across the US on it so I'm now up to 15600 miles! Perfect travel and trail machine, a bit steady on the uphill climbs into the wind, but no issue with reliability. In a short snippet of riding, possibly a bit like this video review, it's easy to find fault with performance etc, but over the duration of an extended ride you really grasp what an excellent piece of design the bike is. Low seat height and mass means you can ride solo up sandy remote trails without excess fear of getting stuck, whilst being able to mount luggage on front racks is a revelation for keeping the bike balanced. The bike makes more sense the more miles you do on it.

My local RE dealer told me that RE's new owners, who are bikers at heart, listened to what the public wanted from an adventure bike - light weight simple dependable and low cost, the 2 models I have looked at seemed well designed and well built.

I've put just over 1000 miles on mine since early July. As a bigger rider at 6' 280 lbs it is just a little on the low power side for street use for me. It does well on secondary roads up to 55 mph, but pushing freeway speeds is tough on it. It's great on dirt roads and does really shine off-road. I've been getting about 68 mpg as it is breaking in and I'm quite happy with that. I personally wish there was a slightly wider wind screen as with a 52" chest, I get a bit of buffet on both shoulders. Someone who's closer to 5'6 to 5'8 and 220 or less in weight, it'd be ideal. Makes good in commuting in town as well and I'm finding that running Shell Premium does garner a bit of extra power and smooth running. With that kind of mpg it is worth putting the slightly more expensive gas in it. I have the optional Panniers installed and each holds about 3 gallons of gear. I can fit about grocery bags in them with my rain gear and necessaries bag and a couple cooler cups for keeping a drink cold. I think their assessment is right on and I'd certainly recommend it.

I have been looking to getting back into riding for some while now and recently discovered the Himalayan. My history with bikes goes back to the sixties when I had Triumphs and BSA so I am very old school and doing doing my own maintenance and repairs were normal at that time. The Himalayan suits my needs very well as I am on a limited budget, simple, economical, able to self maintain and inexpensive to buy and at my age I found it difficult to find something to suit my seniority, crotch rockets and custom bikes are not my thing now but last Friday I went and did a deal on an ex demonstrator and am really looking forward to swinging my leg over the saddle once more and do some of the tours I always promised myself but never had the time before. Next summer I plan to visit the Arctic circle and I am grateful to Royal Enfield for coming up with this little gem. I must get my copy of zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance out again! Happy Days.

Its amazing to see that bike is really getting amazing reviews from all across the world. For Indians, Royal Enfield Bullet has been a symbol of pride and reliability for decades, its our dream to own one in our lifetime, we just don't think about Harley or Ninja. And now this bike is taking that to global level now.

I know Royal Enfield is designing a 650 Himalayan, instead of modifying their vertical twin I think it'd be in their best interest to get a Honda or Suzuki 650, reverse engineer their 650 singles, and Bingo! A VERY simple and reliable air cooled 650 with better numbers than the vertical twin.

Oil-cooler is only effective if there's oil in it dude! The window is empty! 'Only' a two-pot caliper? Off road? What? Only 120kph? Buy a fireblade! judge it in the spirit it was designed for!

Its a wonderful motor bike, fun to drive and dual purpose! However It needs even more power. I wish RE could borrow the engine from the new TWINS (650cc), fine tune it & then replace the existing one in Himalayan. I just love the riding posture in Himalayan. Its so comfortable and enjoyable.

This bike are quite good and nice for beginners since the power is not robust and powerful, the brake, the feature just minimal, they just adequate, also good for somebody that want save cost since its not that expensive..👍

It's a neat bike, but I just think that I would get a drz400 or dr650 instead. Both are lighter and better performing. Still, something draws me to this bike.

Sounds like a good little bike that could even be better with a little tweaking. It’s popular, so I imagine RE will address its shortcomings, and make a good bike that much better.Great review, thank you.

There's not a single Royal Enfield motorcyle that does not irritate the rider with the rattling noise coming from the engine.. RE is horrible in designing engine...

They can but you already had 650s in 2 versions..if they make 650 Kerb weight will increase more and fuel economy also takes a hit..Its was intended to be a lightweight dual-sport compared with standard dual-sport versions But who knows they might come up with 650 version aswel.

@@toqtoq3361 Already aware of all that. When I said “drop the 650 into it” I meant procedure a 650 powered version.

The bars around the tank have nothing really to do with crash protection although they might if you don't use them for what they are intended for. They are designed to carry bags from the like of Via trail so you can carry those essential items you alway's want to have with you. The other use is for carrying extra fuel.

Motogeo is this the EFI model or the carb version? Hesitant to take the EFI version to wade knee deep water compared to the carb.
