Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Review by Knox in the Lake District, England.
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a bike we've been wanting to ride for some time now and we've been following the Royal Enfield 650 twin project very closely since we first found out about it a couple of years ago!
We have to say that the anticipation for the RE Interceptor 650 is well justified, it rides beautifully, a real step up for Royal Enfield in the European market and already the 7th biggest selling machine in the UK to April... not a bad start!! The Interceptor 650 Royal Enfield does incredibly well, especially when you consider the price at £5499 OTR in the UK!
In this video, we cover all elements of the Interceptor 650, handling, the 650 twin engine, brakes, styling and how they are to ride. We also have to say that the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 sound is great as stock, with no need to change the exhaust in our opinion, great sound and great looks!
This is a longer video than normal, let us know whether you like it that long or whether you’d prefer it a bit shorter next time!?
We also got the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 at the same time and will be posting the video on this bike in a couple of weeks, so look out for that one!
All in all, we are real fans of the bike, and you can find out more on the Royal Enfield site here, www.royalenfie....

The dealer dropped my "Glitter and Dust" off at my house this morning. . So glad I held out for this version. It is, to me, the most beautiful of all of them. Remarkable to ride.. compared to my RE 500classic. So smooth. So easy to ride, the clutch and transmission are so precise. Acceleration is smooth and linear. I had an "opportunity" to do some really aggressive stopping with it.. the brakes are fabulous.

Shaurya Kumar Gautam well lets hope TVS do a better job of making Nortons as the ones made in England have always been rubbish : I had a 1965 Norton Atlas which I put an 850 Commando motor in which was very cool and really fun to ride but hopelessly unreliable

@@noelchignell1048 If TVS decides to make Nortons like they make bikes it will be fun. TVS will always make Davids never Goliaths. For example, 20 years ago when the largest displacement we had were 250's from Honda and Indian manufacturers didn't go above 225 cc in India, TVS didn't go beyond 180 cc but they were mad as hell. They actually gave the bigger bored singles a run for their money. I guess this stems from their history in motorsports in India. So if they come with a middleweight Norton, it will surely be brutal.

Royal Enfield have nailed it with this bike. Tremendous value for money, with the investment where it matters such as a quality frame, suspension and brakes rather than a load of electronics which make a dubious contribution to rider enjoyment and represent a maintenance liability as a bike ages. The only let down on the Interceptor is the weight - for comparison I have have a Moto Guzzi 650 from the '80s which has 52BHP and weighs just 165kg dry. Need to shed some weight without losing quality. Triumph take note - a 650 with 50bhp and no gimmicks is going to grab a lot of buyers in the market for a traditional but modern 'British' twin. Why aren't you offering one?!!
@vishnumohannair8791
@vishnumohannair8791 5 жыл бұрын
I hear that changing those exhausts will lose you 10 Kgs. Soon there should be 18 inch aftermarket alloys, which you can put on instead of those steel rims which will save you another 20 kgs. The tyres can run tubeless. 200 Kgs is required to ride on highways if you want to feel safe when those huge trailers ride by. The weight is quite low down, not sure why she said it is top heavy

That's what annoys me about Triumph. Lovely bikes, but not everyone wants huge CCs or more power than you can possibly use (legally). Hi, thanks for the comment and feedback! Ref the weight, I hold to my opinion and what we said, but yes it depends on what you are used to... note that we also called out some of the Triumph models in the review for being guilty of being and feeling heavy/top heavy. We'll explain more in the next video, but we did actually test the bikes with 14 of the women who work at Knox and of the 14 women, in fact, only 5 were strong enough to pick it up off the side stand and sit on it normally. We also had the bike weighed fully fuelled and was 230kg, so on the basis of those two things, I class this as pretty heavy and potentially hard to manage statically for women. However, at the same time, of course, it does depend on what type of bike you are used to. All the best, Aaron - Knox.

I have ridden both gt cont and interceptor ,same day and...well,I just got my driving license a few days ago,literary :)...so is it me not knowing to use the clutch and acceleration or is it indeed little lazy?I mean ...look,I am wondering does it really offer you the pleasure to ride it amd feel the acceleration and second thing, does it offer you the power snd torque to overtake on those on lane/direction between the village roads? and I am not asking just for fun, I am asking because I am at 70-80% to email for ordering it,the other 20% is like...would it be fun to ride it, would it be more fun and safer on a,for ex triumph street twin while paying “only” about 2500€ more. Honestly what do you think? Thank you and yes a professional video, with nice info ,especially on the braking side...I had a similar feeling about being little bit heavy (while actually having same weight as a street twin) with the braking distance little bit long(maybe a second disc can be easily installed?) I mean as a beginner some good brakes could really save you,maybe? Again,thanks

@@emiliandarie7277 Hi, it depends what you are looking for really... if you are after a classic looking, relaxed motorcycle then the royal Enfield is great. If you want a sharper instrument with more power etc, there are plenty of choices, z650, cbr650, 690 Duke, xsr700 etc. However, none of these have the charm of the Enfield. Hope that helps. Aaron Knox.

Ordered it, haha. But to answer, I am looking for something as close to a café-racer , but still good for a beginner, to forget some mistakes on the clutch or throttle !!.It is my first bike and I want to pay a decent price before being sure I will enjoy being a rider on the long term. Yes I want a relaxed, classic looking bike that resembles a café-racer that at the same time offers the fun of riding .I do hope it will, thanks for the answer :)

This is by far the best review I’ve seen on the Interceptor yet. Seriously considering buying one after my degree when I will finally have a life and some money to spare😂 I loved the shots and I enjoyed the conversational/ chat styled review. It felt honest and to the point. I’m also a huge fan of your riding gear. My Knox jacket and trousers lasted 7 years and saved my butt when I had a crash in Australia. The bike was written off but I didn’t have a scratch on me. All this to say I’m a huge fan and keep up the great work!

I have a 2002 model Kawasaki W650, and the reasoning coming out in this video, tells me why I bought it 17 years ago. It still runs perfectly well, but has been replaced by the W800. I would advise would-be buyers of the W800 to go for the Interceptor instead - if only for realism....

@@najeebn5761 We live at India and unfortunately there will be no change in the bike. I am editing my main comment. Don't cancel it. From 01st September 2019 there will be increase in the price. And also for your information Interceptor is not a hot selling bike which requires long wait because thousands of units/month are manufactured at Enfield plant. Your bike is already available at dealership, tell your dealer that you won't bargain and he will give you by next day. All the Best. If you want to save some money then Do compare your local insurance agents for bike insurance.

This place where you rode the bike has got to be every biker's wet dream. "English Lake District", I'm going to remember that. Respect from India! I'm glad that RE introduced these Mid Performance bikes for the international markets. Mid & High performance bikes are not practical for my country (RE staple market for its survival), as most people cannot afford it; as well the roads aren't consistent for people to ride powerful bikes on. That's why most of RE's bikes in the past decade were utilitarian focused and the company just focused on making profits with a marginal premium cost. Now that its healthy on finances, it wants a slice on international fame is what I assume.

Fantastic overview and review of this motorcycle, folks! I like the team approach to the riding and letting both perspectives and opinions be heard. I believe you said there no electronics, but these do have ABS to be compliant with Euro requirements, don’t they? I think the pair of bikes with this engine really signals a leap forward for Royal Enfield. The looks, decent but not intimidating performance, and the mind blowing value (!!) position The Interceptor and the Continental GT as the go to for folks who want an entry into retro styled motorcycles. I know that I’d love a week on one! Now, what was that saying about only mad dogs and Team Knox sitting in the midday sun?

I’ve been ignoring the elephant in the room for too long…time to see it for what it is an give the RE 650 a look. Living in the US the dealers aren’t as close as I’d like but I’d do my own maintenance anyway…just getting to one to have a look is a bit of an endeavor. I saw one, used, when I was buying a used Triumph T120…I wasn’t impressed but I don’t think that owner took good care of that particular bike. I want, no need, to go to a showroom and have a look at a new one and decide from there. I’m looking to get a new bike in the spring and this is very near the top of my list. The Moto Guzzi V7 is also up there, but a lot more expensive comparatively. Thanks for the review and some points to consider.

@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Well I guess experiences are sometimes different. As a motorcycle veteran myself with 40 years on and off two wheels I had had many flats to overcome. I guess it depends where you ride. What I mean by that is that I have ridden in first world countries and no punctures for years on end and I have made the complete opposite experience in third world countries with nails and sharp objects on the 'roads' that seem to find my tires like fleas an old dog....... What I have taken from that is that I feel more comfortable on a bike equipped with tubeless tires. Safe rides 👍🏍
