Thanks for showing the tools, part numbers are useful too in case we decide to order. I look forward to the flat bed project too.

Man you're really killin it with those factory tools. I too am using an aftermarket cam in my "INT750", have not installed it yet. The high compression 78mm pistons and cam have been shown to produce 54hp on the Hitchcock's website, that is closer to 60 hp at the crankshaft; your next few videos should be interesting. As for my INT650 morphing into 743cc, my specialty tools that I used for years on VW and Porsche engines lend themselves well to the R.E.; particularly the piston ring compressor. The 83.5mm/743cc and 90mm/863cc Weisco pistons used in the S&S big bore kits hit precisely in the car's range: 77mm through 92mm and the assembly techniques are the same as on an opposed air-cooled 4-cylinder. The only R.E. tool that would have been a help on my Enfield is the cam position tool but the orientation can be dialed-in with careful reassembly. I did not upgrade the connecting rods on my build, going to spend that coin on the Rekluse clutch. Again, anxious to see videos of your project; very little documentation on this subject and we ARE curious!

@Frederick Woods Thanks for the comment. I have looked at that clutch too. Haven't decided which clutch I'm going with yet. The only thing I am having trouble finding is the ring compressors. I can't find the RE ones anywhere. I've found some universal ring compressors online but they all had horrible reviews. I know about the lack of documentation. I haven't found one person that has broken the RE 650 Twin down as far as I plan on going. It will be interesting. I've been researching for months. It will probably be a few weeks before I have everything I need. Those factory tools put quite a dent in my pocket. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.

@@my-enfield612 more than likely none of the dealers have split a case other than in training. If major engine problems occur during the warranty period they just swap out the entire unit. (I could be wrong on this). You will be performing major "surgery" to install connecting rods, I don't know of any method to access the bearing caps from any position other than having the entire crankshaft on the bench or in a vise. Again, this is very "air-cooled VW/Porsche-like" in the design and layout of the various parts; only difference is the motorcycle crankcase is horizontally split and the auto engines are vertically split, I have extensive experience with both genres. The horizontal split is inherently less leak-prone of course. Your video production (you've mentioned your credentials before) is top notch and I speak for a huge audience when saying "bravo". Good luck with your HVAC studies, like hospital and grocery stores you will always have job security. Your PRS (guitars) buddy from Virginia; keep playing those blues!
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@Frederick Woods I can see that. It's cheaper for RE to replace the engine, compared to paying a mechanic to repair it. I may go to the bore kit someday. If I do, the stronger rods will already be in place. I found a ring compressor that should work. My stepfather is a retired mechanic but he still has a shop. I went through a drawer full of ring compressors and found an adjustable one. Hopefully it works. We'll find out. I'm gonna break the engine down (still in frame) to remove some weight before I try to lift it (bottom end) out of frame. Might build an engine stand/cradle for it. (much easier to work on). I'm really glad you like the videos. I've never been good at judging my own work. So, your comment makes me smile. You're right, HVAC-R isn't going anywhere and will always be in demand. It's crazy, but I enrolled in HVAC school and the next day I went to a local HVAC company to see if they were hiring for an apprentice or helper. I got an interview, and after I told them what I wanted to do with my HVAC training they offered me a job right there. I start next week. I have my own recording studio and audio/video editing will always be a part of my life. But, the HVAC thing is a good opportunity for me. I've never been one to have dreams, I have plans. Sir, you are definitely my bud. I remember the first comment you ever left on a video I have since taken down. I tell my wife "look what Mr. Woods wrote". Then she replies "is that the guy in Virginia?" lol Thank you so much for the comment and, as always, thanks for watching.

@@my-enfield612 yessir, the music thing is a type of bond even though we don't have jam sessions; the type of guitar playing is mutual. You probably already know this but the ring compressor needs to be shaped like the letter "C", the open end disconnects from the part of the tool that is like a big pair of pliers so it can allow the connecting rod to pass through. In many engines the pistons drop in from the top. I considered putting both pistons in the cylinder and lowering it to a point where the wrist pins could be slid through and clips be inserted to retain the wrist pin but even though that sounds easy it might also be easy to cause damage. There is a half-moon recess on the outside of the stock liners that gave me that idea but it is not how the workshop manual says to do it. I'd post pics but that isn't possible on these comment sections.

@John Bruce Thanks for the comment. Yes, I changed the fenders to black. When I first looked at the Interceptor 650 there was one bike I saw and it just looked different. Took me forever to realize it was just the black fenders. It was one of the first things I wanted to do to change the look of my Interceptor. I really like it. Glad you do too. Thanks for watching.

Love the calm and methodical way you approach any job. Your YSS kit installation is my new favourite. Also the clear audio boosts the user experience. Can you list what kind of regular tools you have use including torque wrench that were demonstrated in the YSS video. I’m inclined to try out doing that myself and need to get some quality tools first. Subbed. Excited to see how far you go in the major mods on your bike. Congratulations on your new job as well! 😊

@Manoj Manohar Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you like the video. It really doesn't matter what tools you use when it comes to the wrenches, ratchet and sockets, or the Allen head sockets. You don't have to spend a lot on those. The torque wrench I used in the YSS videos is from harbor freight (cheap). I use it on mounting bolts around the bike but I will use a high quality Snap-On torque wrench when I do the engine mods (and a degree wrench). I'll be breaking the motor completely open in about a week to install new connecting rods, cam, and pistons. Engine will have to come out of the bike. Thanks, I love going to work. Finally! lol Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.

I hope you do a full engine teardown video and how to install big bore / cams 😎
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@radchills Thanks for the comment. I am doing a full engine teardown! All the way to the crank. Gotta split the block. It will probably take a few videos. Especially with all the adjustments needed when putting it back together. I am installing new connecting rods, cam, and pistons from S&S. I might try the big bore kit later on. If I do I'll already have the stronger connecting rods. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.

Hello! Just found you here on KZbin. Thanks for making your videos. I have subscribed to your channel. I am learning a lot from you. I have a GT 650, just got it a few months ago. Love our bikes! I am starting to do some mods too, mostly cosmetic, but eventually I will start doing some performance stuff...suspension, brake upgrade, tires, exhaust, etc. I will save my questions on that stuff for later, lol, but my first question, if you have some time to answer, is our bikes are heavy. Do you plan to do any mods to drop some of our bikes weight? Thanks again for making your videos. I appreciate you making them. Cheers from John in Greece!
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@JJM51 Thanks for the comment. Glad you like the videos and thanks for the sub. So, I happen to like the weight of the bike. It feels sturdy to me and the extra weight adds traction. I have had some people say they removed quite a bit of weight by removing the center stand and grab bar on back. Stainless steel exhaust will help too. I'm sure there are a few other things you could do but I haven't looked into it much. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.

Hey thanks! Useful! What’s your expectation from putting the high compression pistons and hardened camshaft into it?
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@Nick Collyer Thanks for the comment. From what I hear, the high compression 78mm pistons and cam have been shown to produce 54hp on the Hitchcock's website, that is closer to 60 hp at the crankshaft. I think I can get a little more out of it with the right exhaust. Thanks again for the comment and thanks for watching.
@collyernicholasjohn Жыл бұрын
@@my-enfield612 That’s a ~25% increase in HP. I’m tempted. If I take the head off to do the cam, easy to add the high compression pistons, too.

You don't really need the tappet adjustment tool either do you?
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@radchills It actually makes the adjustment a little easier since the tool stays on the tappet nut when you're not holding it. Also, a short screwdriver will stay inserted in the tool when not holding it. So, the tappet adjustment tool frees up a hand when you need it for the feeler gauge. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

How much was all of that?
@my-enfield612 Жыл бұрын
@radchills Close to $800 and I just order two more factory tools I didn't know I needed (another $200). They're adjuster tools for the two rear engine mounts (behind the nut and washer). You can't remove the engine without them. That's all I'm waiting on to start the engine mods. Hopefully get them in the mail next week. Then it begins. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
